Arguably all women want to look beautiful; which explains the myriad of beauty services catering to the need. After all, beauty can inspire. What’s more inspiring is that more women these days are running their own businesses and enterprise, especially in the field of aesthetics and beauty.
We caught up with one woman who’s been helping and inspiring others through her beauty business. Jessie Ting is the owner of Beauty Recipe, a salon that focuses on nails, eyelash and eyebrows services. She’s also the winner of Best Beauty Blog at the Singapore Blog Awards 2014.
Hi Jessie! Introduce yourself to our readers please.
Hi there! My name is Jessie Ting and I own Beauty Recipe, focusing in nails, eyelash and eyebrows services, training, supplies and salon management systems. I’m also the winner of Best Beauty Blog at the Singapore Blog Awards 2014.
How did Beauty Recipe get started and more importantly, why?
Having a mum who is a beautician, kindled my interest in all things beauty related and I was able to learn a lot. Living in England and Korea for many years also provided a lot of exposure for me in terms of the many beauty products, trends and technology.
My passion has always been about inspiring and helping women to feel good about themselves so I decided to start Beauty Recipe to bring the best quality, latest beauty treats and technology to my customers at affordable prices. I’m happy to add that Beauty Recipe also won the Top 100 Singapore Excellence Award for our innovation, quality and good customer service!
At Beauty Recipe, we develop our own range of over 200 scented organic gel colours, organic extension soak-off gel and organic 3D sculpture gel that is safer and time efficient when it comes to nail treatment.
What was the driving force behind the setting up of the business?
Since I was a little girl, I always dreamt of having my own beauty shop and business. I decided to turn it into reality. It was a lot of hard work but I am very blessed to have a group of very talented people working together with me.
And what were the challenges?
I knew that running and funding this business wouldn't be easy. So I had to work extremely hard to save up. There were days where I had to work 16 hours a day and everyday of the week with no rest to fund the business and to make it successful.
With no prior experience with running a business, I pretty much had to learn everything from scratch. Looking back now, it did seem like challenges were around every corner.
From your experience and opinion, how can one prepare themselves mentally, financially and spiritually even to run a business of their own?
You have to be passionate about the business you’re running otherwise it will become more of a chore. I believe success comes to those who want it badly enough. If you want something so bad, you should not give up easily and must be wiling to do whatever it takes to find your way out of difficulties and challenges.
You WILL make mistakes but NEVER quit. Keep trying regardless of how many times you have to. Set goals and focus on achieving them.
Share with us your recommended top 5 nail care tips
1. Practice a Healthy Diet. This will result not only in beautiful nails but beautiful skin and hair as well.
2. Trim your nails regularly or go for a professional manicure if you are too lazy to do it yourself.
3. Use organic nails products that do not harm your nails or health.
4. Moisturise and hydrate your nails.
5. Stop opening cans with your nails! They are not tools so stop using them like one.
Knowledge, hard work and sacrifice are all part of the journey towards success. Jessie’s never giving up attitude and determination are just some of the factors behind both Beauty Recipe’s and her success. We’re sure there is more success in store for her.
