When your average Westerner thinks of Japan, what’s most likely to spring to the forefront of their minds? We’re betting that sushi, samurai, anime and geisha are up there in the top ten, with sushi being the best-known incarnation of Japanese food abroad. But it seems that stylish overseas consumers aren’t satisfied with simply eating their sushi – they want to wear it on their bodies, too, so everyone can see how cool and cutting-edge they really are. Join us as we take a look at some of the weird and wonderful sushi fashion items available for purchase right now.

First up, there’s the “Bento Box Pouch” from the HELLO TOKYO collection by Kate Spade.

Retailing at 22,980 yen (US$191) it’s a little pricey for something that’ll just about hold a cell phone. It features a print of makizushi rolls, and is nice and colorful, though.

Kate Spade also does a clutch version, called the “Bento Box Clutch”.

We like the ergonomic boxy design of the clutch, but again we can’t help but notice that this is just a bag with a photo of sushi on it.

The fun doesn’t end there, though! To round out the collection, they also do a nice iPhone cover.

Just be careful not to get confused and accidentally dip your phone in soy sauce the next time you’re at your favorite sushi restaurant.

If you’re in the market for a sushi iPhone case but prefer something a little more stylised, why not opt for this cartoon-style sushi phone case from BEAMS? (Also available in, erm, carrot…)

If it’s socks you’re after, these Forever 21 offerings will keep your feet as snug as a tightly-rolled California Roll.

Also available in blue stripes!

In fact, it seems sushi socks are popping up all over the place these days!

Sushi tees are also a great choice for casual yet edgy style.

Check out the cute little sushi train!

Looks like Uniqlo’s also a good place to hit up for sushi shirts:

And finally, how about some sushi leggings to keep your legs warm this winter?

What do you think of the current trend for sushi-based clothing items?
