I guess that the title in itself seems rather intimidating but well, I’m good with always taking up challenges and better yet, it is quite interesting as well, so yup, here’s my two cents! Alright, I shall not keep y’all in suspense and I will begin with just focusing on 3 lovely artistes that I have deep admiration for and have also filmed shows with them.
二姑
Not unknown to most people, she is a senior and very experienced actress, an actress whom people are fond of and certainly a respected figure in the entertainment industry. Many may wonder how did she get such a name? Well 二姑 is actually her stage name and hence people have gotten used to calling her such.
In fact, it is my deepest desire to also emulate her level of success. 二姑 besides being an actress with Mediacorp, is also my acting coach from Zoom academy. I guess the reason why I’ve reached where I am today, I can proudly credit it to the teachers that crossed paths with me in life. In class, I’m always given mentally stimulating tasks as both during lessons and also the homework. Many a times, I do concede that the life of an actress and going for such classes are mentally draining and sometimes demoralizing, and even at times, I was on the verge of giving up, thankfully I didn’t take that alternative…
The drive though possibly came from the fact that I’ve actually invested so much time and effort into being an actress and hence, call it sunk cost or whatever, it definitely didn’t make sense for me to then just give it all up. Thankfully, I could still rationalize then!:)
二姑 has been strict and has very high expectations for all her students, and definitely, she has deeply enriched my life with her life stories and also the dos and don’ts and also have gained the necessary skill sets to become a better actress. It is truly, truly an honor such great honor in fact to have been her student. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Ckay, another trainer also from Zoom academy =)
My recent shoot involved me filming in the same show with 二姑 albeit on different scenes. When I met her on the first day on set, we had a relaxed chit-chat and 二姑 started sharing more experiences in the entertainment industry. Such generosity and willingness to share such knowledge, only few are as nice and willing to coach. I met her during in 1 of the day while I was on set and we chitchatted during the rest time, 二姑 then shared more about the industry experience and advised where I can truly say 二姑.Thank you for everything.
Zoe Tay
One of the few precious moments where I filmed with Zoe Tay, in fact just thinking about it makes me smile like craze! Ok, who says I cannot fan girl??!
Anyways back to Zoe, yup, it was certainly an honor just to be able to work with her! Zoe, has been my idol since young, I remember those films, the gambling shows and everything, her superb acting just leaves me mind-blowned.
In real life, she is a bubbly people-person with such friendliness that immediately leaves me at ease and gave me the confidence to talk to her.
Despite all her achievements, she is very down-to- earth and humble, everyone, not just those in the media industry should learn one or two from her.
And yes, my above mentioned sentence may lead people to construe that I may have had bad experiences with rude and arrogant people, but for professional reasons, I could never name who they are hence, please don’t bother asking me alright? =)
Gurmit Singh
Very fortunately, I was asked to film with him in a comedy themed show on Toggle.
I’m not able to review the exact details since its not out yet, but do keep a look out for my future posts!
Gurmit is a friendly and confident guy, one with also a great personality. When filming seems dull and mundane, he can very easily brighten up your day at work and he does this so well by cracking jokes and taking the initiative and talk to others. I’m pretty sure that there is a common consensus among us all that Gurmit is a popular entertainer as can be seen from all the shows he acted in and also well-loved by the public.
I am not ashamed to say that at times I do feel inferior while interacting with famous people who have made it big in their lives. Possibly, its cause we all belong in a world where comparison is everywhere. We compare who looks better, who is more talented, who is financially more well off... this whole list can just go on.
But essentially my point here is Gurmit isn’t such a person, his humility and friendliness are infectious and always bringing everyone, all the people that works with him, some form of happiness, which of course includes me! All in all thankful for the chance to have worked with him! It was really an unforgettable learning experience
