I was born with a squarish jaw, thus making my face appear big and masculine. And for the longest time, I had been toying with the idea of getting fillers for a higher nose bridge and a sharper chin.
I wondered how would I look like with sharper features and a V-shaped face that every Korean babe seems to possess. So I decided to get a beauty makeover at Halley Medical Aesthetics.
The above photo was taken on the first day of the Lunar Chinese New Year, which is about a week after I had my botox and fillers done. I had placed it with an old photo for comparison's sake and even sent it to my girlfriend to show her difference. However, I didn't tell her which was the BEFORE & AFTER photo. But she said she preferred the one on the right and so did I. I'm loving my new look now which is much more feminine and well-defined.
MY CONSULTATION WITH DR TERENCE TAN AT HALLEY MEDICAL AESTHETICS
So here's what went down during my visit to Halley Medical Aesthetics. I had a consultation with Dr Terence Tan on my concerns. He mentioned that my face would look better with some 3D projection. Fillers on my nose bridge and chin would help give a more projected look.
He also explained that the reason why I look so tired all the time is due to my sunken eyes, add on the eye bags and voila! You get this zombie-lookalike mummy here. Hence, Dr Tan recommended some fillers at the tear trough to fill it up. If you are not sure where the tear trough is, check out the picture before. The tear trough is the area somewhere below the tear duct.
Dr Tan also suggested to pump up the cheeks. As I had botox done at my jawline around 5 to 6 months ago but the jaw muscles were back. Dr Tan also had plans to plump up the cheeks but I’ll leave that for later!
Sounds like a lot of work was needed? Well, actually not, since botox and fillers are given via injections so it would be a few jabs here and there. I need not worry about any downtime and best of all, the results would be instant. And so I was all set to achieve my new look.
Here I am with numbing cream before I begin with the procedures.
BOTOX JAW SLIMMING & TEAR TROUGH, NOSE AND CHIN FILLER INJECTIONS
For the nose filler, a commonly used method by most doctors is to inject the filler into a few spots along the nose bridge and massaging it afterwards to smoothen it out. However, doctors have to ensure that the fillers are evenly distributed.
There's another method which Dr Tan used on my nose that involves the "magic needle" which is actually a micro-cannula that is inserted at the tip of my nose so that the filler can be applied evenly with practically no pain or bruising. Another advantage offered by this method is that the micro-cannula is blunt and hence, it slides under the skin easily with minimal pain.
This pushes our blood vessels aside whereas the method of multiple injections cuts through the blood vessels. With this "magic needle" method, there is minimal bleeding and pain involved. This same method was also used for my tear trough as well.
For both my nose and chin, the Juvederm Voluma filler was used. It gives a subtle lift and is known to last up to 2 years.
As for my tear trough areas, the Juvederm Volbella filler was used. It is a softer and smoother gel, producing a more natural result with reduced swelling.
I just had my right tear trough done in the photo below, you can see the difference between it and the left side which has not been injected yet.
Once I was done, the only evidence that were visible were the minuscule needle marks.
This is my new look which was taken on the night after I had the botox and fillers done. The other photo is for comparison.
You can see that the area below my eyes have been filled up, my nose and chin are looking more defined with more projection.
And I was out and about by the next day as you can see from the photo below.
Initially, I was quite worried that I would appear too fake and plastic but I'm loving how natural and subtle the changes are. I still look the same but only better. You can tell that my nose and chin are more well-defined now. Jaw slimming botox could only do that much for my squarish face but with a sharper chin, my face looks much more slimmer and feminine.
And thanks to the pumped area at the tear trough, I'm looking less tired too.
Consultation charges on weekdays before 4pm are just S$10, after 4pm it would be S$25 and S$50 on weekdays. If you decide to take up any treatments at Halley Medical Aesthetics, the consultation charge would be waived. How awesome is that!
PUMPING UP MY CHEEKS WITH SCULPTRA
As part of my 3D projection makeover, Dr Terence Tan of Halley Medical Aesthetics recommended Sculptra, one of the latest innovative skin treatment, to pump up my cheeks for a fuller look.
The areas below my eyes look sunken, thus, making me appear older and tired than I really am.
So what is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable poly-L-lactic acid that induces the production of new collagen in the depths of the skin. Also known as a non-surgical face lift, once Sculptra is injected into the skin, natural collagen is stimulated. The new collagen would increase in volume, correcting the signs of facial aging such as the folds, wrinkles and skin laxity. And the results? A youthful and fuller appearance that's so sought after.
It is safe, FDA approved and absorbed naturally by the body. In fact, it has been used for years in dissolvable stitches.
But Sculptra is not limited to just treating wrinkles or giving one a face lift. For those lacking facial volume, you could also consider Sculptra in place of the traditional fillers. Like in my case, I would be getting Sculptra for my cheeks for a fuller, 3D appearance.
Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra is not a quick fix remedy but it is known for subtle results over time, which lasts much longer too. It works by stimulating the growth of collagen for one to attain a natural and youthful appearance. Sculptra is not limited to correcting wrinkles and sagging skin but is also a popular treatment for facial volume loss.
The photo of the left was taken around 3 days after my botox, fillers and 1st Sculptra treatment. While the photo on the right was taken 3 days after I had my 2nd Sculptra treatment at Halley Medical Aesthetics.
It may not be that obvious but I can already see a slight difference in the volume of my cheeks in the photos. Do note that this is not the final results, as mentioned before, Sculptra results are gradual so I will be updating again in a few months time.
Sculptra Treatment
Before we begin, numbing cream is applied onto the areas to be injected.
Dr Tan marked the areas of my face which he would be injecting the Sculptra into. As you can see from the markings, I would be getting Sculptra on my cheeks and the area beside my nose to correct my nasolabial folds.
After that, an ice pack is used to further numb the area before injecting the Sculptra.
This photo was taken after the treatment, I could put on makeup immediately to cover up the needle marks. The next step with Sculptra is to follow the 555 rule, which is simply to massage the treated areas for five minutes, five times per day for at least five days in a row. Massaging helps in the distribution of Sculptra for a smooth and natural look.
My Experience with the 3D Projection Makeover With Halley Medical Aesthetics
Sculptra is just part of the 3D projection makeover recommended by Dr Tan at Halley Medical Aesthetics, besides the botox (to slim down my jaw) and fillers (for a higher nose bridge, sharper chin as well as a fuller tear trough).
And yes, I love my "new" look, I find that I look less tired and more youthful-looking!
