Preparation is key for every competition.

The following are just things that I did to prepare for my pageant. There may be other ways too, so do share your opinions with me!

First, read up on the pageant's past and look for any videos. Look up on the various persons in charge of the pageant so that you will recognise them during the competition. It would be goodfor you if your recognise them and others don't, they will remember you more.

Second, start taking care of your diet and workout. It is important to keep in shape and also eat healthily so that you won't fall sick during the pageant. You have to be physically strong for all the rehearsals and events you attend, it won't look good if you faint during rehearsals or look pale while others look energized.

Third, get at least 3 evening gowns ready and pretty clothes as well. Get a tailor that you trust, you can tell them about your pageant, they may be willing to sponsor you fully or partially. Never play it down in a pageant but don't go overboard too. Wear clothes which are unique, maybe a slit here, or backless, or with shiny / lace details. In a sea of gorgeous women, every detail that will help you stand out is important.

Fourth, learn to walk well. WITH HEELS. What makes or breaks a pageant queen? Her qna, her walk and her fit body. Search all the YouTube videos about walking and remember to keep a good posture! Get at least two pairs of 6 inch heels that you are comfortable with to make up for your height. The higher the heels, the more your calf muscles will stretch to make them look toned and lean.

Fifth, take care of your face. You will most likely be wearing makeup everyda , so it is important to not have breakouts before a pageant. You want a clean canvas that you can paint on during your competition. Stick to a good skincare regime and visit a dermatologist if you can. A breakout is the last thing you want to worry about during your competition.

Six, prepare two of everything important. Call it the Kiasu-ness in us Singaporeans. However this mindset was really advantageous. I brought along 4 nubras and I only ended up using two. I put one each in my two luggages and one in my hand carry. Just in case I lost one, I can quickly find it without wasting my time. Note for everyone in this industry, Nu-bra is a girl's best friend. Going to seven.

Seven, Nubra is a girl's best friend. It is essential to put this in your luggage. You can wear it with any apparel, and you can create cleavage instantly.

Eight, memorise your answers. Answers to questions like "What have you done since your crowning?", "What do you want to be in five years' time?", "Why did you join pageantry?". Questions about your country like "How big is Singapore?", 'What is special about Singapore?". You need to have these answers at the back of your hand, you have to appear knowledgable, mature and love your country. Never ever badmouth your country, you are there to represent your country, be proud of her.

Nine, support system. You will literally feel stressed and break down if you are away from home for too long. Remember to check about certain internet firewalls in the country and learn how to break them so that you can have connection to your loved ones when you need a listening ear or when you miss home.

Ten, the most important thing to prepare for a pageant is to prepare yourself well emotionally. Believe in yourself and stick to your principles. Know that your insecurities will be heightened, there will be tempting offers made and there will be dramas and betrayals. Remember to stay strong and remain true to yourself.

Hope this helps!
