As a child, we never knew what are life challenges. Life is pretty much a walk in the park since we had no responsibilities on our shoulders.
I’ve learnt to be optimistic in life when I stopped blaming the world and move on with my life. I ensure you that it’s much easier said than done. But I take life as it comes. One day at a time.
My world was shattered that very dreadful day when my father suddenly passed on. I was the apple of his eyes. Always looking forward to him coming back from work, sitting on that same chair and reading his New Straits Times.
Ever since the Navy official came knocking on our door, that memory remained till today. Sometimes it brings jitters down to my spine. I dreaded to hear those words, “We are sorry, he was shot.”
What do you do with life then?
To live in faith that the world is on your side.
To have faith. To pray in time of weakness. To believe that in the deepest pain, it will empower you to grow into your highest self.
To think only the best and to expect only the best.
When it rains, look for rainbows. When it’s dark look for the stars. Things happened for a reason. Sometimes it's better to be ignorant of that reason. Just hope that things will work out for good.
Be a dreamer.
Don’t let your dreams die when life throws you a setback. Challenges in life are unavoidable. But never let your aspirations slip away. Hold onto it because dreams are made to be fulfilled as long as the fire of desire is still burning inside of you.
It’s just a bad day, not a bad life.
We all go through hard times. Some days are longer than it should be. Don’t sweep the problems under the carpet. Deal with it, cry over it and sleep over it. Feelings and emotions must be acknowledged, only then we have the strength to move on.
There is always a way.
Forget all the reasons why it won’t work and believe the one reason it will.
Guard your thoughts.
Train your mind to see the good in every situation. Change your thoughts and you’ll change your world.
Surrond yourself with positive people.
Surround yourself with people who make you hungry for life, touch your heart, and nourish your soul.
Enjoy the simple things in life.
Sit in the park. Enjoy the skies. Find time for things that make you feel happy to be alive. Celebrate moments with the people we love most in the world.
Count your blessings.
What destroys us most in life are the pictures in our heads of how it is supposed to be. What do you think about as you fall asleep. What we don’t do is dwell on the day’s brightest moments. Yet research shows that those who count their blessings daily are happier than those who, say, count sheep.
Let go.
Sometimes, you just have to let it go. The guilt, the shoulds, the have-tos.
Although time can never heal all wounds, but surely it’ll make you grow and understand things. At end of the day, you can focus on what’s tearing you apart, or what’s holding you together.
Being optimistic isn’t always being happy. It’s taking what the world throws at you and saying “I’m not going to let this get me down.”
