You want something that deviates from the norm. No romantic and classic wedding for you but you want something darker, something edgier, something cool. You want a goth-themed wedding.
It is a rare sight to see a goth-themed wedding in Singapore as more couples opt for a more conventional wedding. But if you are really into it, why not?
So let’s explore this… How do we rock a Gothic wedding?
1) Colours: Black, red, purple
The main colour theme for a goth wedding is an important one as it sets the mood and tone for the whole event.

The central colour to pick is obviously black. Red and purple are two popular colours to mix with black. But do remember to keep these 2 colours in their darker shades. White is a good colour too but use it sparingly, if not you might turn your goth wedding into a fairytale one. If you want some glamour and a hint of royalty, add gold and silver.
2) Choice of wedding suit and dress
The groom and the bride should match their outfits. Common sense right? A black suit and a black wedding gown should be the way to go. Add lots of laces if you are heading the lolita goth direction. Choose metals and studs if you are leaning more towards the metal/punk goth side.
Oh, and don’t forget your accessories. Pick edgier accessories instead of the sweet wedding-like ones.

3) Choice of venue
The correct venue is important. Even if you choose the correct colours and decorations, trying to rock a gothic wedding at the sunny beach may not be that appropriate. An indoor venue with high ceiling would be great because it mimics the high ceilings of the western gothic churches. It would be great if there are chandeliers too!
Our local Chijmes. Not many high ceiling venues in Singapore but I thought Chijmes would be a perfect one! If not try Orchid Country Club’s grand ballroom. Huge ballroom with high ceiling too.

4) Decorations
Black table cloths on every table will be a basic since your guests can see the tone of the whole event upon entering the venue. You can choose red roses as centrepiece, place tea lights or candles on the tables or along the aisles.

5) Makeup and hair
If you are not sure how gothic makeup looks, you can always do a Google search and many examples of it will pop up. However, some of those may look too vampy or dracula-ish, or even slutty. Unless you like the mentioned type of makeup, you can just stick to smoky eyes and a darker lip colour. Paint your nails black or dark.

6) Guests’ participation
Lastly, after doing what you can on your side, remember to put a dress code on your invitation card. Encourage your guests to dress according to the theme. For the more conservatives ones, just encourage them to wear black. Everyone has got something black in their wardrobe isn’t it?
