Working in the fashion industry is something that a lot of people have been dreaming about since they were little so you need to make yourself stand out from the crowd. The best way to do this is to completely embrace your personality and be yourself. This is an industry where you need to actually know what you’re doing as opposed to simply looking like you know what you’re doing. You can only wing it once you’ve conquered the basics and experience counts for a lot, so when someone asks you if you can help out on an underwater photoshoot, maybe don’t turn up with just a bucket and spade.
In order to be successful in the world of fashion, you need to be a team player. One photoshoot is an epic collaboration of professionals who are all experts in their field. Whilst there can be feelings of vulnerability as everyone’s work is subjected to intense scrutiny, they all compliment one another to make perfection in the form of that one sublime shot. As most people only see the final result, they can be oblivious to the hard work and dedication that it takes every individual member of that production team to reach that goal.
As always, the journey is sometimes more exciting and worthwhile than reaching the final destination because of the things that you see and learn along the way. And in the case of knowing what really goes on behind the scenes of a fashion shoot ,this couldn’t be more true, as you’ll learn all about what it takes to make perfection a reality instead of an expectation.
10. Technology Is Your Friend

You literally wouldn’t be able to have a fashion shoot without the trusted help of technology. The days have gone where point and click will suffice, with technology constantly pushing boundaries and providing us the opportunity to augment film with a variety of ever developing new effects. Devices such as the new HP Spectre are indispensable when it comers to cutting, editing, and adding features to any shoot or film. As a result technology now plays a crucial role in the creative process through start, middle, and end, and now a tablet or laptop is as crucial to any photographer as their trusty old camera. With a little knowledge and some imagination, photoshop can allow for infinite possibilities.
The whole video making process is made a lot easier and it goes a lot smoother with the access that the world now has to technology. From initial design, to production, data analytics, and distribution it is at the forefront in delivering success to the shoot.
Technology is your friend and you should always treat it with respect.
9. There’s A Lot Of Experimenting

High fashion shoots often break down the barriers of what it is to be ‘safe’ and although the ones that are the most fun are edgy, sexy and probably involve the use of some exotic animal, production teams will experiment a lot in order to get that perfect shot.
Of course, it doesn’t always have to be high fashion makeup and huge science fiction themed sets that can make it edgy. It can be as simple as using different lighting, taking the photo from a different angle and even adding in an extra prop to the scene.
8. Time Goes By Very Quickly

If you’re lucky enough to have a job in this industry, you probably wouldn’t change it for the world. Every day is different and you meet so many interesting people that you feel that you could write a sitcom based on their personalities alone. You’ll have some epic stories to indulge everyone with at dinner parties and you’ll get to see some incredible artists working their magic in front of you.
All of this excitement means that it’s 7pm when you thought it was 3pm, you have no idea where the time went and you can’t believe that you’re so lucky to be living this dream.
7. Everyone Is On The Ball

Regardless of what condition you find yourself in, you just have to get on with it. You might be shooting a Spring line in the middle of Winter and you’re not even the one who is wearing a bikini in the snow.
It doesn’t matter if you’re too hot, too cold, too tired or too hungry, you’ll strive for perfection and you’ll be completely on the ball from the start of the day until it’s a wrap. You also need to prepare yourself for the fact that ‘anything could happen’, even if you don’t believe it.
6. Everyone Is Very Comfortable With One Another

There isn’t the time or the space to have issues concerning your modesty. Everyone is working together in such small spaces and besides, it’s really nothing that they haven’t seen before. People are all up in your grill, retouching your makeup, covering your body in paint (when necessary) and if you’re shooting as a couple, then expect to become a space invader.
It really is like having one big happy family who accept you for who you are, even if you’re having a tantrum in your underwear.
