Bangkok is a place I yearn to visit once a year. Although my last visit to Bangkok was 5 years ago… I am happy to be back again this year!! I will pick Taiwan and Bangkok anytime if I need a short getaway
Here is my TOP FIVE reasons why you should visit Bangkok:
1) Cheap air flight tickets
Woah. This is no joke but you can get tickets for Bangkok (or Taiwan) for just $100++ during promotion!! That’s like our cabfare from Jurong to Changi 4-5x only? I’ll pick the plane over the taxi in Singapore anytime.
Of course, I would very much love to fly elsewhere but when budget is a concern, I’ll gladly make do with a cheaper option.
2) Hotels at affordable rates
Hotels in Bangkok cost so much lesser! You can get a room for $50/night. I love to compare it to the prices in Singapore soo… if you do a staycation in Singapore, a night in an average hotel cost about $150-300 and that means that you can easily stay in Bangkok for 3-6 days you know!!
3) Cheap transportation fare
The taxi fare cost less than 100 baht ($4) each time. When you board the cab in Singapore, it is already $3.30 thank you!!
As for the MRT wise… I would say the cost is about the same here. Well, if you want a feel in the trains there, anytime.
4) Cheap Shopping if you know where to visit
Their famous Platinum mall is not really that cheap I would say.
I bought a bag for 750 baht (SGD30) there and I saw it at ALL the night markets going for 40% of the price only :(
DO. NOT. BUY. IN. THEIR. MALLS. So I strongly recommend you to shop at their night markets first because deciding visiting Platinum.
CHATUKCHAT weekend market was okay though. We got quite a big of items there. My colleagues told me to buy stick-on bra because it is only retailing at SGD10 there!! Some people around me visit Bangkok once a year to stock up a year’s supply of clothes. Not a bad idea too.
We also bought some singlets there because it was SO HOT. On James, 100 Baht (SGD4) and me, 50 Baht (SGD2). My hair band only cost me 10 Baht (40 cents). Got it from the roadside stalls on the way to CHATUKCHAT market.
5) Cheap food everywhere
Although the food we can find here is not as expensive as some other countries out there, but it will still thrill us to find cheap food everywhere.
Not only does the night market have cheap food, the food in restaurants are also reasonable. I found Coco Ichibanya in Terminal 21 and it was 40% cheaper there.
The ice-cream place I visited cost 3x lesser in Bangkok than at home! Yay!
My cute Jello drink at 10 Baht (40 cents). I got this drink at Big-C. That place is a must visit if you are intending to buy some Thailand snacks back.
