Rachel Kum, 25, is 2009 Miss Singapore Universe. Rachel Kum, pictured here, recently was hit by a controversy like what some American beauty queens encountered in the past after some of their suggestive photos surfaced online. The Rachel Kim “indecent” pictures were said to be posted on Rachel Kum’s personal blog RachelKum.Blogspot.com which now is set as an invited-only mode.
Now some in the traditional conservative Asian country are calling for the recently crowned Miss Singapore to be stripped of her title following spread of the suggestive photos. These pictures are now weapons against her undoubtedly by her fellow beauty queen competitors. The person with the most to benefit if she is stripped her is the First Runner-Up so could she be pushing this scandal? Some people on blogs and forums are expressing disappointment, they say that Rachael should not have won because of her questionable morals. Rachel Kum is now lashing back on her detractors calling them “insanely jealous.”
Rachel Kum has survived the public reprimand because she won’t be dethroned her title by the beauty pageant organizer.
According to a spokesman, after they contacted Rachel Kum, currently on a overseas trip, for details about the controversial photos, they believed the images shouldn’t affect her status. Because those pictures were taken before she won the title of Miss Singapore Universe in May, and furthermore, they were photographed at private occasions like friends’ Halloween party and her own birthday party.
Rachel Kum, a graduate of University of Western Australia, is a manager in the medical industry. She stands 170cm tall.
Rachel will represent Singapore at Miss Universe 2009, which will be held at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas on August 23.

We all know how media from all around the world works the same way. New rising star = Must find scandal. All in the name of pageviews and increasing number of circulation.
Just take a look at hot American Idol's runner up winner, Adam Lambert. The media went to scoop high and low for his dirt. And voila! Lucky for them, they managed to dish out some juice that sexy Lambert is gay! And that is how media, scandal and controversy work. If they don't do that, they will be out of job. A simple economics equation.
So, it is to nobody's surprise that Singapore media went to fish for the grimiest about our Miss Singapore Universe 2009.
Her steamy pictures taken in private functions!
THROUGH BIAS EYES & NARROW-MINDED JUDGEMENT
Whoever has complained that Xiaxue takes pictures of herself in micro shorts and use it as her blog banner these days? No one. Not now. But in 2005, it would sure be a hit news headline because she was media's favorite topic. Not now though. Because the media is always more interested in someone new.
"Now some in the traditional conservative Asian country are calling for the recently crowned Miss Singapore to be stripped of her title following spread of the suggestive photos." But how come no one is making a fuss over Miss Japan, Emiri Miyasaka's national costume for Miss Universe 2009?
AND BIKINI PARADE DURING THE BEAUTY PAGEANT IS NOT SUGGESTIVE?
So what if Rachel Kum took sexual suggestive pictures in PRIVATE PARTIES? The beauty pageant has section with the contestants in bikinis! How is that not sexually suggestive, too, with mini cloths covering their bits? Come on! Miss Universe was started from “a local "bathing beauty" competition spearheaded by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, CA would transform into an international annual tradition with countless young women.”
The media talks about her as if she is participating in Miss Religious 2009! What hypocrisy!
