Dating Rules that No Longer Apply

Dating is something that most people look forward to because it can enable them to meet their soulmate. However, at times, dating may seem somewhat complicated. For instance, there are some dating rules which are way out of date. If you are still following one or more of these rules, make sure you stop right now. They might be the reason why you are still single!

In this day and age we are surrounded with technology. It is so easy to reply to a message or a call. A commonly used rule was to keep your man waiting at least a day until you return his call. In such a way you would be making him think about you and wait for you in a somewhat obsessive manner. This rule certainly does not apply nowadays that we are carrying smartphones around, or with the social media platforms being accessed all the time! If you don’t return his missed call, or don’t reply his SMS that day itself, it shows you’re just not interested. Don’t be surprised if he reads it that way and moves on.

Another outdated rule is that the guy should be the one to call the girl first – every time. There is no practical reason why a girl should not be the one to place the call or send a message! Don’t wait around like a wall flower. It’s totally acceptable to make the first move.

In the past men used to pay for dates. However, this is certainly unfair on the guy, especially if he is still a student with student loans to deal with, or maybe he’s just an NS boy on a meagre allowance! Relationships should be based on a give and take principle. It is okay to have him pay from time to time, but you should pay for your share often too! It is common decency after all!

Reserving dates only for Fridays and Saturdays was common practice. However, this is not quite healthy. You should try to date whenever possible so as to allow more time to get used to one another and make your relationship grow. Even if your life is busy, you should make time for each other if you really care for your relationship.

Having sex on a first date was strictly prohibited or considered to be like a taboo for a relationship to start off like that! This certainly does not seem to make much sense. As long as you are okay with it, there is nothing quite wrong about it. Although I would not recommend it, I have actually known of some couples who eventually went the distance despite getting intimate on the very first date.
