2016 is here, everybody is busy writing a list of their new year’s resolution. It’s tradition and probably a great way to start a fresh new year for everyone, it’s like a reset button where you put all the past behind you and start afresh like a newborn (not literally).
There’s one really important resolution I’ve set for myself apart from travelling more, changing bad habit and working harder for my career. It’s picking up a new skill, of course a useful skills and not a not-so-useful talent (like spinning a pen or whistling with my fingers).
Learning new skills have a lot of benefits; you can relate to more people, become a fascinating person and become better at learning.
• I want to become good at cooking, like really good.
Although I know how to cook but I want to be really good at it, like I could simply whip up a plate of delicious pasta without much effort or fry up the perfect medium rare steak that will leave my friends drooling. It’s certainly not easy to pick up cooking as you have to constantly try again and again in order to get perfection but I’m sure once you’ve perfected this skill you will leave your friend and family in awe with your cooking.
• I want to become really fluent in a foreign language. (Japanese)
To be honest, I’ve always been impressed by people who’re capable of speaking more than 3 languages (multilingualism). Because it sure as hell isn’t easy trying pick up a foreign language, for myself I can speak 3 different languages; English, Chinese Mandarin and Japanese (Half fu*ck). Not only is having knowledge of several foreign languages is good for travelling but it’s also makes a person more flexible and understanding to other cultures. For international business person, it surely helps to expand career and opportunity potentials. So yes, that’s why I want to become fluent in another language!
YES, this is the two skills I’ve prepared myself to pick up in 2016. Hopefully I’ll become an expert in this two by the end of 2016, that’s my resolution!
I wish everyone a wonderful new year and all your new year’s resolution to be fulfilled! Xoxo
