I never really understand what dry shampoos are, because I never dared to use them in place of my regular shampoos. It seems strange to me to add on chemicals to my hair without washing them away. Is anyone on the same side as me?

With that question in my head, I went on to read up and did some research on whether dry shampoo works. Seems like it is both an angel and a devil.
The advantages
1) Convenience

Rushing for time in the morning or you are just too lazy to wash and blow dry your hair, dry shampoo is your saviour. It absorbs excess oil from your hair and leave your hair smelling good.
2) Adds volume

For those whose hair gets limp after a while and need a perk-me-up before a date night, dry shampoo can put volume back into your hair without having you do a full hair wash.
3) Extends the life of your blow-outs

You spent money on having a stylist style your hair and you really want the blow-out to last a little longer. It just isn't economical to wash your hair immediately at night so you may want to use dry shampoos instead.
4) Your hair colour lasts longer

Our hair colour is the prettiest immediately after a colour job and from there onwards, the colour will start to fade with every wash. By using dry shampoos in between your regular washes, you can make your colour last longer.
The disadvantages
1) Oil, dirt and chemicals stays on your scalp

In short, dry shampoos help to absorb oil only, and therefore, all the dirt and grime are still left sitting on your scalp, which is bad for scalp health in the long run.
2) Hair follicles gets clogged up

If you use dry shampoo only for extended period of time with a proper wash, the buildup of the dirt and the chemicals from the dry shampoo sits on your scalp and overtime, clogs up your hair follicles. When hair follicles gets clog up, it is going to lead to the host of problems listed below:
- Scalp rash
- Scalp acne
- Hair loss
- Stunted hair growth
3) Dry hair

The product may dry out our hair causing it to be weak and brittle. Brittle hair breaks off easily and you may end up with a whole head of broken hair.
Conclusion

A good hair wash is still needed to get rid of the dirt, bacteria and yeast in our hair, so replacing wet shampoo entirely with a dry one is out. However, using it occasionally is defintely acceptable with all the benefits it brings. For me, I wouldn't use it unless absolutely neccessary, like when I'm out camping, has no access to water and I need to refresh my smelly hair.
