Denim never goes out of trend, but their styles and cuts vary across the decades. From the bell-bottoms of the 1970s, to the skinnies of mid-2000s, what's in and what's not changes rapidly. We still want to wear our denims because it is uncool not to, but what are the key trends to look out for in 2016? The two key words to hold on to are "loose" and "panelled".

Ditch the skinny low waist jeans already because they are officially over. Keep your jeans sitting a little higher on your waist with a more comfortable cut. Straight cuts, flares, or even bell cuts are ways to go. Looser cuts do not only apply to bottoms, but tops as well. Oversized denim jackets are in this season, but if you prefer a more defined silhouette, a tie waist denim top works well to define your waistline.

Panelled denims are huge this year and if you have to buy a key fashion piece this year, this has to be it. Panelled denims are different from the patchwork denims of the 80s with its sleeker and less rugged look, and they were spotted all over the runways and the streets during fashion week.
