Thai food, though loved for its spiciness and fragrance, is often cooked using large amounts of oil. This excessive grease has resulted in Thailand having the second highest obesity rate in Southeast Asia.

Agency BBDO Bangkok and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation are tackling its country’s unhealthy diet with ‘AbsorbPlate’–an innovative tableware that separates surplus oil from foods.
The plate comprises 500 small holes, modeled after the texture of sponge, which enables the dishware to soak up to 7ml of grease. This translates to about 30 calories.
This isn’t the first novel idea that has been released by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. Last year, the organization released this macabre ad that confronted smokers with ink made from diseased lungs.
Watch the video below to learn more about ‘AbsorbPlate’ and discover the truth behind common weight loss and nutrition misconceptions in another health campaign that we recently featured.
