The arrival of a newborn comes with a busier life and less time to spend with your spouse. It is normal for your relationship to occupy less priority after the arrival of a newborn. A new dad often feels ignored as his wife who is now a new mother is totally devoted to the needs and cares of the baby. But ladies, as much as you feel that being a mother is the most important thing in the world to you, don’t neglect your marriage.
Here are a few tips to find a couple of time away from baby.
1. Work towards having a real date night:
Make arrangements for a baby sitter. If the price is an issue or if you would feel more comfortable leaving your baby in the hands of someone you know, ask a friend or family member to take care for a few hours. It does not have to be a full night on the town. Your goal here is to find some time alone away from the baby. You can grab a bite, take a walk, or go to the movies, all within your neighbourhood.
2. Be Creative:
You do not need to wait for a special occasion to spend quality time away from the baby. For instance, you can grab lunch with your spouse or commute to work together. It is amazing how comfortable a conversation can be when you are together in the mid day and there is no batch of chores or baby to worry about.
3. Plan special routines:
Begin a pizza delivery night or a weekly DVD. Life becomes much easier once your baby gets into a predictable sleeping pattern. Watching a movie is an easy way to enjoy some time together with your spouse.
4. Read A Love Letter To Your Spouse:
Sometimes life with a newborn baby can really seem like you and your spouse are like ships passing through the night. It will be nice to slow down and reconnect by telling your spouse how much you love him. You do not have to write down a prose from Shakespeare to get your spouse heart beating for you. Just pen down a few simple thoughts e.g. your laughter is infectious, I love the way you hug me when I am stressed out. And leave the note somewhere they can find.
5. Play games:
Games are an awesome way to have fun and laughter together, so get the scrabble board, deck of cards or the backgammon set. Or if you prefer, invest in some 2 player computer games. Keep things light and fun, make couple time an opportunity to destress together, don’t make it feel like an obligation.
