Whether you are dressing up to look Instagram-worthy on a summer vacation or just going for that world traveller style without even leaving the country, here are some recommendations I have for you to totally rock that summer chic look.
As the weather gets hotter, loose flowing clothing made of breathable and comfortable fabrics make a comeback in the form of tunics, kaftans and peasant tops. These pieces are a hot favorite for fashionistas as evident at the Coachella summer festival. And I have to say that I am very much in love with the bohemian chic collection from Tory Burch. However, if price were a concern, you would be delighted to know that there are more affordable options available at Mango, Dorothy Perkins, and even local online store, Zalora.
Tunics are a must-have in my wardrobe and I adore them because of their beautiful and intricate designs. These stylish tunics come in flattering cuts, which also happen to be great at concealing the tummy. And the thin and cooling material are a welcome in the scathing heat that we face in tropical Singapore.
When it comes to footwear for the bohemian chic look, I have these top three picks. And that would be the gladiator sandals, chunky sandals and strappy espadrilles. My personal favorite would be the gladiator sandals because they are not only comfortable but versatile and stylish. The calf-high straps also accentuate the legs, making them appear slimmer and longer. If you are feeling more adventurous, you could go for the knee-high gladiator sandals to make an even bigger statement.
Another great footwear to compliment the tunic would be a pair of chunky sandals. And if I had to choose, these gorgeous chunky sandals from Mango would be my top pick. The thick straps remind me of the traditional Japanese footwear known as the Geta. And the base is not as chunky and huge as the other ugly chunky sandals that people are wearing nowadays. Those other chunky platform sandals just remind me of my fashion faux pas in the 90s when I was a Spice girl fan and Baby Spice had those platform shoes I once thought were really cool.
Strappy espadrilles are an alternative type of footwear that goes well with the Indie style tunics. These laced up ones from Forever21 are unique and different the typical espadrilles and would definitely be a conversation starter.
No summer vacation outfit is complete without accessories and with the glaring hot summer sun, you would want to make sure that you have your eyes protected with some sunglasses. While oversized sunglasses still reign as the trendy eyewear for the season, I think it is getting kind of boring.
Remember the irregular shaped sunglasses we used to wear as children? Well, these are making a comeback in fashion. And I think that it would be fun to spice things up with some funky sunglasses. Instead of sneaking them from your niece, you could grab a pair from Forever21.
