Taking supplements and going for beauty treatments regularly can be quite taxing on the pocket. So why not get your required vitamins from the food which you take in daily. Research has shown that supplements are not really necessary if you eat a healthy diet.

Most of our foods are rich in vitamins and protein, so by carefully selecting the right foods for each meal, you can be sure that you are getting the daily intake of required vitamins to keep your body healthy and skin glowing.

Avocados

These are a great source of antioxidant carotenoids and free radical compounds for protecting the skin against environmental damage. Scientific research has shown that having high amounts of carotenoids in your diet can improve the appearance and density of one’s skin. Besides preventing dry skin, avocado is known to improve brittle hair and nails. When applied tropically, it can help to hydrate and soothe parched skin. Some people even use avocado oil as a natural sunscreen.

Carrots

We all know how harmful the UV rays from the sun can be on our skin. Carrots are like nature’s very own sunscreen. Packed with load full of carotenoids, carrots help to reduce your skin’s sensitivity to UV rays. When paired together with the regular use of sunscreen, you can be rest assured that you are being protected from the sun.

Edamame

Most commonly seen served on a plate cruising around conveyor belts in Japanese sushi restaurants. These beans, which basically means “branched beans”, are rich in Vitamin A, an essential for clear and good skin. Vitamin A is also an immunity booster and keeps eyes healthy and sparkling bright.

Salmon

This fish is one of the best food sources for Omega-3 fatty acids. It contains selenium, a mineral that protects your skin from sun damage. While vitamin D from salmon is known to keep bones and teeth strong and healthy. There are so many ways to have your salmon. Personally, I prefer to have them grilled or pan-fried.

Spinach

Spinach is loaded with vitamins B,C and E, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids. It is no secret why spinach is the cartoon character, Popeye’s favorite vegetable that is known to give him strength. It also contains lutein, an antioxidant that preserves eyesight. Spinach is one of my personal favorites too when it comes to leafy greens.

Tomatoes

This is my favorite fruit not only for its juicy and flavorful taste but also for its skin boosting properties. High in lycopene, an antioxidant, it helps fight cellular damage and the reddening of the skin. Tomatoes are an essential anti-aging booster and I often include them in my diet. You could also purchase cherry tomatoes from the supermarket and just have them as a snack in the office.
