Why I Will Never Leave Singapore

Whenever I hear people complaining about how expensive and boring it is to live in Singapore, I ask myself the same questions again and again. If I have to choose, I still choose Singapore. I still choose to be a Singapore resident no matter how tough I have to work here, and even if I have to work till I die since the retirement age has been adjusted higher and higher. It isn’t about me not desiring to retire earlier (well, If I’m rich of course I want to) but about feeling useful and also as a contributor.

No doubt there are times I complain too, and the most common complaints should be “Everything increase price but salary still the same!” Well… I am sure you get me, and I get you too. Haha!

Why I’ll never leave Singapore for good:

1. Home is where I belong

My family is here. My friends are here. No matter how green the grass another country may have, it doesn’t win the fact that my happiness is here.

2. I like familiarity

I need to seek comfort in places and in people I am familiar with. I cannot imagine coping with everything new if I have to live long-term in a foreign country. UNLESS all my love ones move too.

3. I like our clean and safe city

I like a smart and clean city. When I travel to some less well-developed countries as compared to SG, I cannot help but feel horrified visualizing a permanent stay there. I hate it when people litter and spit everywhere. I hate it when people are rude, push and bang my shoulders. I hate it when I have to be extra careful with my bag and belongings.

Not saying that Singaporeans are perfect… Just yesterday, I met a man who farted right beside me and a woman who sat on my right thigh & hip on the bus. It’s just human problems. Sigh.

The partner mentioned before that she will want to retire in Bali in future. This thought frightens me because I value what I have here. I really am not sure if I can just leave everything behind and just see my family once or twice a year.

Cues the song – “This is home”~

This is Home, truly
Where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me
Where that river always flows
This is home, surely
As my senses tell me
This is where I won’t be alone
For this is where I know it’s home

Do you love Singapore as much too? Wishing this nation a Happy Birthday!

A Proud Singapore Citizen,
