How We’re Doing It?
Since it’s called a pre-detox, we decided to give our 100%, and use as many organic ingredients in our meals as possible. For it is the only way to prevent putting harmful pesticides in our body, and defeating the purpose of our pre-detox. Not forgetting that, we are also going to munch on more fruits and vegetables, and bide goodbye to our caffeine and sugars.
Thanks to the availability of Quan Fa Organic Farm produces at Sheng Siong Supermarket, we managed to grab some really fresh and affordable ones under $15. In case, you didn’t know, Quan Fa Organic Farm is one of the biggest distributors of organic produce in Singapore, and they subscribe to ecological agrarian methods of farming, while abstaining from usage of pesticides, to produce only the freshest & nutritious crops.
Drink: Beet Root & Green Apple Juice -$ 5.75

We particularly love the green apple, as it is rich in pectin (a type of soluble fibre), that has the ability to bind to contaminants, allowing them to be flushed out of the system instead of being reabsorbed by the body. Moreover, apple also packs various beneficial phytochemical such as the flavonoids- phlorizidin, that helps the liver to eliminate toxins via the bile.
While, the bitter gourd contains good amount of Vitamin C, which is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants that help to scavenge the deleterious free radicals from the body. Research conducted at Annamali University (India) also showed that extract from the vegetable increased levels of antioxidants, such as glutathione peroxidase, helping to improve detoxification & prevent liver damage.
- Recipe (Serves 1)
-1 organic jade bitter gourd ($4.50)
-1/2 organic green apple ($1.25)
-4 cups of water
Blend all ingredients well in the blender, and serve with iced cubes.
Main: Sunflower Sprouts Sushi Roll- $9.50
We added some nutty flavour to our sushi with the help of sunflower sprouts. These sprouts can contain many more enzymes than raw fruits and vegetables, thus allowing the body to extract more vitamins and minerals from the food we eat.
We picked brown rice as our sushi base, as it is rich in insoluble fibre. Which means that it adds bulk to waste in the digestive system, and encourages speedy elimination of the toxins from the body. The grain also packs magnesium, which is a critical component for the antioxidant enzyme- superoxide dismutase (SOD). SOD provides protection against damage from free radicals.
- Recipe (Serves 4)
-4 pieces of laver roll ($2)
-1 cup or 190 g of Golden Peony Thai Premium Brown Rice ($4)
-1 cup of Organic sunflower sprouts
Cook the rice, and let it cool, before patting a thin layer of it over the sushi roll. Arrange the sprouts over the rice, and start rolling your sushi.

Dessert: Beet Root & Yoghurt Popsicle- $4

For dessert, the jewel-toned root is picked to satisfy our sweet tooth. Beet roots contain a unique source of betalains, which has been showed to help in the repairing and regenerating of liver cells (the body’s primary detox center). These betalains can also stimulate glutathione production, which neutralises the toxins, and make them water soluble, to facilitate excretion out from the body.
Moreover, the fibre in beets helps to “sweep” the digestive tract of waste and toxins while restoring bowel health.
- Recipe (Serves 4)
- 1 cup of Meiji Natural Yoghurt ($1)
- 1 cup of beet root ($3)
Add all the ingredients into the blender and process to obtain a dense liquid.
Distribute evenly into the ice Popsicle molds, freeze until solid and serve.
