Our 2016 instagram story has never been more colourful and tantalising with the flooding of galaxy donut, breast implant raindrop cake, flying udon, and even the recent LeTao double fromage cheesecake. Though some of these food trends might be short lived like their instagram stories, we definitely want the soft-serve trend to stay on (in our hearts). What’s yours?

Our Favourite Kind

Being in Singapore, our taste buds is indeed blessed with a plethora of soft serve flavours, from the trustworthy vanilla, to local delights such aschendol, and even sassy ones like Tiger beer. Amidst all the fanciful ones, we particularly adore our coconut soft serve. Yes, we’re picky with our indulgence, only the healthier onesget pass our licking tongues. In case you didn’t know, the beach fruit is one that is nutritious from inside out.

Coconut Flesh

The tropical fruit is an excellent source of dietary fibre, helping you to keep all your digestive woes at bay. The more prominent kind of fibre in coconut flesh- insoluble fibre, bulks up stools and makes them move through the digestive tract more quickly, thus preventing constipation. While, the soluble fibre soften the stool, and facilitates its excretion from the body.

All these enable you to answer to nature’s call and provide relief when digestive issues are bringing you down.

Coconut Oil

You might think that coconut oil means more fats, and less calories burn, yet the science proved us otherwise.  Turns out, Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a type of medium chain triglycerides. This kind of triglycerides are both rapidly broken down and absorbed into body (due to its shorter chain length), thus making them a fast energy source, and less likely to be stored as fat.

In fact, a study shown that just 15 to 30 g of medium chain SFA a day, can increase the calories burn by 5 % over 24 hours, and this translates to an additional of 120 calories per day.

Our Favourite Spot

Our favourite coconut soft serve is none other than the one from HUSK.  Frankly, we were so close to planting our own coconut tree in the office prior to the discovery of this little gem.

HUSK is inspired by the best recipes from the bustling streets of Bangkok. We especially dig the non-pretentious and simplicity of their Froco (yes, they name their soft serve this way), which is blended with nothing else but just the nutrients from the freshest young Thai coconut; to produce an all-natural ice cold swirl.

The best part is it is low in calories (111 kcal). Each time we sink our teeth into the Froco, it never fails to surprise us with how easily it glides down our throat, along with its non-synthetic sweetness.

Sometimes, we try to fulfil our daily fruit requirement by upgrading our Froco to a parfait. Where we get to pick 3 toppings from the tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, jackfruit, banana, watermelon) or something crunchy like the homemade muesli or granola.

Other than the dessert, we also love quenching our thirst with the coconut water based smoothies at HUSK.

We were glad that the smoothies not only find favour with our gym junkies colleagues, but also a minority of herbivores and fruitarians among us. One of our hot favourites is definitely the Secret Garden, which is an interesting concoction of celery, cucumber, and spinach. In case, you’re not adventurous like us, there’s always the raw coconut water to fall back on (trust us, when we say there’s no sourish or nail-polish like taste in this).

Be right back, we’re counting down to 2017 with our HUSK Froco!
