Look around you. Almost everyone wants to be someone else. Someone else always has the better hair, boyfriend, lifestyle. Someone else always seems to have more followers, more likes, more views. He/she has it all - or so you think.
I don’t know about you but I see one too many people allowing such self-deprecating thoughts pollute their mind, causing them to constantly crave to be better for the wrong reasons. They pit themselves against people who, in fact, may not even be who they present themselves to be. The more you compare yourself with someone else, the more shortcomings you will find. And with each discovery, you’ll unknowingly chip away at your own sense of self-worth.
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” Oscar Wilde said it best. Instead of looking at what you don’t have, be grateful for what you do. Find your strengths, passion and drive. What gets your heart pumping and feet tapping? What makes you smile? What makes you happy to be alive? Sure, it’ll probably take a while and you may not find it straight away but it’ll be worth it when you get there.
Personally, I constantly work on improving myself. There are days where I, too, question my own ability, days where I feel pretty darn useless. But smile, and cut yourself some slack. If life was so easy, we’d all be acing it right now. We need to remember that all of us have this human tendency to compare ourselves to others but it’s a decision that only steals joy from our lives.
There you have it, some Food for Thought. In my opinion, the only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.
Love,
Christy
