When it comes to fashion, many of us live in a society where sustainable or fast fashion seem common. Here are some of my tips to help you play a part in reducing such problems.
Note that these are just personal tips that I practice myself and that I’m no sustainable fashion advocate. Feel free to share more ideas!
1| Wearing it more than once.
When it comes to shopping for clothes, I think that many of us buy clothes simply because we love it. Why shouldn’t we pamper ourselves after working hard for the whole month right? Well here’s the thing, I always try to buy clothes that I know I can wear more than once, or even better, on multiple occasions by MIXING and MATCHING. I often don’t see myself just wearing the clothes just once, hence bringing me to my next point.
2| Donate
If you find that you have too much clothes as well as those that you haven’t worn in years (I had those moments), these are good enough reasons for you to donate them away because trust me, you're gonna realise that you just keep buying clothes and probably would not touch them again. So why not donate them? You can do so to the Salvation Army or sometimes there are door to door collections of clothing donation which is a winner to me! Cause one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
3| Thrift Shopping
Remember how I said that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure? Well you can also do your own thrift shopping, it’s just one of those ways to help the environment. Thrift shopping can be done in a few thrift stores, Salvation Army or flea markets where people set up stalls to sell their first/second hand clothes at much lower prices. You will be surprised at what kind of gem you can find!
4| Do It Yourself (DIY)
Sometimes you might love the fabric or design of the clothing too much to give it away, then I suggest that you can upcycle it by making it into something else, such as a pouch or bag. You just need to Google for some interesting DIY ideas to know exactly how you can upcycle it.
I hope all these simple tips are helpful and you will have a good time finding new gems, or bringing out the creative side in you to play a part in the fashion environment.
