About a 6 hours coach ride, or faster if you travel by air, Genting Highlands is the perfect getaway for many Singaporeans.
Many of us escape to Genting Highlands for its cool weather, serenity, and all-rounded relaxation when we have time for a short getaway. Resorts World Genting is a leading leisure and hospitality destination in Genting Highlands, and has been providing its visitors with entertainment, dining, shopping, cultural and rest and relaxation experiences. We are, in fact, looking forward to more exciting plans Resorts World Genting has in store for their visitors and that includes the world’s first Twentieth Century Fox World theme park that is expected to be opened by next year. The SkyAvenue lifestyle mall and the Awana Skyway cable car system were completed and opened to the public in December 2016.
MyFatPocket took the weekend off and made a short trip to Genting Highlands to discover what's new and exciting there. And, of course, to curb our hunger pangs and to satisfy our picky taste buds, we explored the what's new in the food front at the new SkyAvenue lifestyle mall first, which features top retail and restaurant brands from around the world with five levels of shopping, dining, entertainment and nightlife experiences.
Burger and Lobster
Cheers to Resorts World Genting, we no longer have to fly halfway across the globe to satisfy our cravings. UK-chain Burger & Lobster opens its first outlet in Southeast Asia right at SkyAvenue.
Just like its name suggests, Burger & Lobster specialises in premium 650-700g fresh lobsters from Nova Scotia, Canada, which are delivered weekly to the hilltop via KLIA.
We had to order one of the most popular items on the menu, the lobster rolls and we could choose from the two flavours on the menu, chilli or original. We stuck to the original because one of us couldn't take spicy food. The lobster roll did not disappoint at all -- it came with chunks of fresh lobster served in a toasted brioche roll, accompanied by chips and salad. That totally made our 6-hour ride up the hill worth the time.
Do try the burgers if you still have space for more food after the lobster roll (in fact, if you don't, just head back the next day). Burgers and Lobster serves 100 percent Australian beef, with no fillers. The patties are served in a custom baked sesame seed brioche bun, and will be topped with beef, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, the restaurant’s own, in-house pickles, and Burger & Lobster’s secret sauce. The Mayfair, at 168 grams, is their entry-level burger, served with chips. The Original is 224 grams of beefy goodness, also served with chips. The B&L brings the best of both worlds together, with a 224 grams burger with lobster meat served with chips and salad.
To add local flavours to their menu, Burgers and Lobster specially included a drink that is served in our local kopitiam style in a plastic bag. Don't miss this refreshing drink if you are there, definitely Instagram-worthy too!
The beautiful mural wall shown above will be knocked down in months to come to offer a view of the new Twentieth Century Fox World theme park when it opens. Alfresco seating will also be created despite the non-availability of a terrace. When the theme park is completed, the restaurant will eventually be large enough for 170 diners who undoubtedly will dine on some of the least stressed crustaceans in Malaysia.

Cafés Richard
Cafés Richard, the No. 1 coffee roaster in France, opened its world’s first café at SkyAvenue.
We had wanted to be seated at the exterior seating area of Cafés Richard but it was full house when we got there in the afternoon. Shaped like a flower and well-lit by natural sunlight, that would be the perfect spot for all your OOTDs and foodfies!
Cafés Richard outlet at Resort World Genting is their first international foray into the retail world of cafés, providing a classy Parisian-style atmosphere where customers can experience the genuine French art of living and enjoy authentic espresso, original coffees and teas, as well as French food.
There were a huge variety of coffees, teas and mocktails for us to choose from and since they are the no. 1 coffee roaster in France, there is no reason for us to go for anything other than coffee. Beans are carefully selected from around the world and at the top of the list is Perle Noir, or black pearl, an exclusive Cafés Richard 100% Arabica brewed in a French-style espresso iconic of the Parisian Brasseries. Massaya, also served as an espresso, hails from Mexico and is organically cultivated.
Customers who prefer slow coffee methods such as French press, chemex, syphon or cold drip can choose from Ethiopian Moka Yirgacheffe cultivated in the birthplace of coffee, Costa Rica Tarrazu cultivated on volcanic plateaus, Sumatra “Orang Utan” whose proceeds partly go towards helping the endangered orangutans of Indonesia, as well as the rare and premium Jamaican Blue Mountain.
Order their high tea sets to go together with their aromatic coffee to complete the afternoon. We are loving the Foie Gras with Baguette and the not too sweet macaroon and Creme Brulee. Immerse yourself in the Parisian mood at Cafés Richard before heading off for more shopping and relaxation.

Motorino
Lunch at Burgers and Lobsters, high tea at Cafés Richard, and we head to Motorino to have some authentic Neopolitan Italian pizzas for our dinner.
This Brooklyn and East Village pizza place has New York Times food writers hailing it as the best authentic Neopolitan Italian pizza restaurant in New York. Owned and operated by Belgian-Italian born chef Mathieu Palombino who makes Neapolitan-style pizza in wood ovens imported from Italy, Motorino has multiple outlets in New York, two in Hong Kong and Manila, one in Singapore, and when it is unveiled in December, its first restaurant in Malaysia.
The decor of Motorino reminded us of an old American 1920s grocer or pharmacy and it has two large pizza ovens that were specially shipped in from Naples in Italy. We felt almost like we went back in time in a time capsule..
Meatballs braised in tomato sauce, pecorino and basil for starters.
Roasted chicken wings flavoured with lemon, mint and chilli flakes to delight our palate.
Pepperoni pizza
Del Popolo Pizza
Arugula Bresaola Pizza
We love Motorino pizza's soft and chewy crust, and how its sauce balanced with the right amount of cheese. Take your pick from Motorino's ten stellar favourites, which range from the stripped (marinara, margherita and pepperoni) to the supremely Italian (stracchiatella with basil, sea salt and extra virgin olive oil; cremini mushrooms, and colatura di alici featuring cow’s milk mozzarella, red onions, grape tomatoes, white anchovies and sea salt). Also on offer is a Brussel sprout pizza with fior de latte, garlic, pecorino and smoked turkey bacon; cherry stone clam pizza and an egg, turkey chili variation. Pizzas range from RM45 to RM67 for a whole pie.
