[Blogger Everest] It's Time to Laugh

Did you know that children laugh more than 300 times a day whereas an adult laughs less than 20 times a day?

We want a life of joy and laughter. But life can be a little complicated sometimes. With the daily stresses of life, we have to set aside time for our minds and body to recharge and one of the simplest ways is to laugh and smile. And nope, that is not a joke.

Feel Good Chemicals

When we smile, the movement in our muscles send signals to our brains to release serotonin and endorphins which are the “feel good” chemicals of the brain. They make us feel happy when they are released.

Reduces Stress

When endorphins are released in the brain, stress hormones like cortisol, are reduced. Cortisol release creates negative, unpleasant and stressful feelings.

Affecting the mental health

Smiling and laughter have a great benefit to our mental health. They release difficult emotions and make us feel good. When strong emotions like anger or sadness are present, laughing helps to alleviate some of the emotional distress.

The ability to smile and laugh during times of stress allows us to shift our perspective to something more positive. This will help see challenging and difficult situations in new light that is less threatening. Using smiling and laughter as a strategy during tough times, you can feel less overwhelmed and consequently happier.
