Yup, that’s me. Tiny, four-year-old Christy. And with her stood seven-year-old Colin and nine-year-old Constance, accompanied by our parents. As you can see from the photo, my mum enjoyed dressing us up in matching attire – perhaps that’s where my love for fashion came from huh? Even down to the denim, black stockings and white sneakers. Gosh, I love her.
I pride myself on being a blunt person. I speak my mind, rarely hiding my feelings and shying from them. For that, I really do need to thank my mother. Boy, she taught me to be gutsy, to stand up for myself and to have a mind of my own. She taught me, and continues to teach me, to be thankful for what I have and to be humble and kind. My mother tells it like it is and I really do think I’m a splitting image of her, right down to the soul.
Bubbly, gracious, classy. There are so many adjectives I could use to explain my mother and those who have met her in person would know that she’s a bundle of joy, a real cheerful human being. She inspires me to fight for what’s right, to challenge the norm and to be who I want to be. My mother knows when to take life seriously and when to kick back and relax. She is just the definition of motherly perfection.
Sometimes, she even laughs at her own jokes before she can even finish telling them. Happy tears welled up in her eyes and she trips over her own words, her joke barely audible, much to the slight annoyance of her audience (my siblings and I). But I’d never, EVER, trade her for the world. Her quirks and silly singsong moments are what make her unique. My mother is one of a kind and I’d like to think I got that from her as well.
So I celebrate this beautiful woman, more so this month, and wish her all the happiness, health and goodness the world has to offer. With us all right by her side of course! Nothing beats family. Can’t wait to surprise her with a couple things this Mother’s Day! Heh. I love you, mummy!
