Meeting Your Mr Right at the Gym

If you spend quite a bit of time at the gym, why not use it as a possible ‘hunting ground’ for Mr Right while you’re at it!

It’s not going to cost you anything extra (like an online dating website subscription would), it will widen your playing field (after all, people from all walks of life use the gym) and it will give you that extra incentive to get up and go work out instead of skipping a session. There’s no better motivation than feeling that your Mr Right might just be around the corner by the free weights today! Here are 4 tips to keep in mind.

1. Be Approachable

This means take your headphones out (yes working out to music is great but it also forms a wall around you)... people seldom approach someone who has headphones plugged in.

Smile at people, not just the hunks, but be nice and kind to everyone around you! It will boost your mood, and make everyone’s day that little bit more pleasant. You’re not a desperate cougar on the prowl, you’re at the gym to have a good workout and know that maybe today, you might spot Mr Right. If a potential Mr Right catches your attention then make eye contact with him and smile at him too.

2. Join a class

A weekly session will make you a familiar face to Mr Right. Take it in little steps and build up to it. Eye contact and a smile to begin with. Choose a spot closer to him in the next session. Ask him for some help. Introduce yourself after class, you’re not strangers anymore!

And no, not Zumba or Pilates or any class where there’s mainly women and gays. Yes, those are fun for you but the ratio of single women to hot eligible guys will never be in your favour. You are far less likely to meet Mr Right in those classes, compared to Cross Fit or classes which are more high impact and strength focused.

3. Look Good

Don’t turn up wearing some raggedy old t-shirt and unflattering shorts. Invest in some quality work out gear - a good sports bra, dri-fit tank tops, butt flattering yoga pants or cute shorts. Dress to suit your body type. I don’t want to come across as superficial but feeling and looking good does put that spring in your step, boosts your confidence and makes your more attractive. Be sure not to cross the line into the realm of tacky, desperate or hooker-ish looking though! The gym is not quite the place for camel toes, hybrid type sports shoes with heels or thick makeup plus false eyelashes.

4. Make the first move

If he’s a regular and you roughly know what his gym attending schedule is like then, yes you can take your time, go easy on the approach. But If he’s a new face, you don’t want to take the risk of never bumping into him ever again! So make the first move.

It’s easy to start. Check out what he’s wearing, if it’s a race related Tshirt, then asking him about it is a great way to get the conversation going. “ Oh wow, did you run the Boston Marathon?” “Yeah, I gathered that because of the t-shirt you’re wearing” “I love running, but I haven’t done anything THAT impressive. I’ve only done the Standard Chartered half marathon.” *Blush and Smile*

And that my friends, is how you could find your Mr Right at the gym!
