A resident on weekdays, a tourist on weekends. That sums up our lives every week because we love to explore Singapore. Even though Singapore is considered small, but there are a lot of activities to do on weekend. My favourite has got to be exploring nature, exhibition or new buildings.
Here are places worth visiting in Singapore.
1. Nature Parks including natural reserve and wetlands
MacRitchie Reservoir and Nature Trail, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Upper and Lower Seletar Reservoir (incl Singapore Quarry), Bukit Chermin Trail, Punggol Beach, and Coney Island - If you are a nature lover, these parks are definitely a must visit. You can enjoy walking in between native species of flora and fauna. Don't be surprised if you spot a squirrel, giant lizard, wild boar or even crocodiles and snakes!
2. Islands hopping
Singapore also have small islands surrounding it. Besides Sentosa, Pulau Ubin, St John Island, Kusu Island are just a few interesting ones to explore! Those islands are just 15-20mins away from Singapore's main island via bumboat. You can cycle or hike over the island or just enjoy relaxing by the beach.
3. Manmade Parks
Gardens By The Bay, Singapore Botanic Garden, Fort Canning Park, East Coast Park, Chinese and Japanese Gardens, Sentosa Island, Singapore Zoo - These parks are worth exploring, and you can even book a hotel stay at Sentosa for a weekend getaway.
4. National Gallery and Singapore Art Museum
If you love art and seasonal exhibitions, these places are for you. There are a lot of different exhibitions held throughout the year including the recent Yayoi Kusama collection, which will be at National Gallery from 9 June to 3 Sept 2017. Besides the interesting exhibitions, National Gallery revamped architecture will also catch your attention. Singapore Art Gallery's colonial style architecture is also worth checking out. You will definitely get some insta-worthy shots over there.
5. Victoria Concert Hall
You will be awe with the architecture of this concert hall. You don't even need to watch a concert to come here. Just walk thru the hall and enjoy the beautiful architectural details at every corner of the building.
6. Clarke Quay and Boat Quay
If you love nightlife, Clarke Quay and Boat Quay are places for you. There are bars, clubs and pubs along whole stretch of Singapore River. If you don't intent to visit those bars/clubs/pubs, you still can enjoy a leisurely stroll along Singapore River.
7. Marina Bay Promenade
Stroll along this the Marina Bay Promenade and get a great view of the sunset and enjoy the breeze and the attractions along the bay. To me, this is also best spot to get a great view of the Singapore city skyline.
8. Iconic Hotels
Marina Bay Sands and Raffles Hotel - MBS is famous for their infinity pool and Skypark, and you need to visit for the once in a lifetime experience. On the other hand, Raffles Hotel is famous with their colonial architecture and classy interior.
9. Museums
Peranakan Museum, Singapore National Museum, Red Dot Design Museum, Art Science Museum, Lee Kong Chien National Historical Museum - These museums are perfect for history buffs.
10. Bugis
If you are looking to soak in the local culture, and get some shopping done, head over to Bugis. Enjoy all the cafe hopping and boutique shopping also!
