It’s August and the country is oozing patriotism and national pride! This month, our beloved country turns 52 and I couldn’t be happier to have been blessed to be born here on this safe, sunny island! Festivities include the annual National Day Parade, house parties and storewide/online flash sales! Heh. However, National Day to me isn’t just about celebrating Singapore’s past and present or how prosperous we have been but also the word ‘Home’ and all it entails.
What is ‘Home’ to you? To me, home is where the heart is. Home is where my loved ones are. Home is where I can be myself and not feel self-conscious or judged. Home is where I know I’ll always have people to lift me back up when I fall.
Take a peek into my private life and you’ll see that I have two blood-siblings and a brother-in-law, all incredibly different yet similar. Meet Constance, my elder sister. At 31, she’s our family’s sense checker. A grammar nazi, literacy whizz and the occasional poet, my sister will school you at any conversation. And she can speak French and Korean. Yup. Wowers.
A few years ago, she got married to Weiquan and I scored myself a new brother! At 32, and to me, he’s the KING of tech. He knows everything about anything tech and LOVES board games. We both enjoy listening to the same kind of mainstream pop/electronic dance music so jamming whilst doing the dishes after dinner is ALWAYS fun.
And then we have my brother, Colin. Three years my senior, he’s the resident tootsie roll. For those who haven’t had one before, a tootsie roll is a candy that is extremely hard on the outside but soft on the inside. My brother doesn’t like to share much but my favourite quality about him is that he’s dependable. You can always count on him to get something done. And done WELL. Quality guy right there (and eww, I rarely promote him like that lol).
But ohhhh shucks, sorry ladies. He’s not single. He’s actually engaged! Which brings me back to the title of this post. Nawwww you thought the new addition would be a baby huh? Gotcha! The new addition is my soon-to-be sister-in-law. Their wedding is in January next year and I can’t flippin’ wait.
If you think you’re about to see a photo, you thought wrong! But, keep close and stay tuned to my social media channels cos she has begun to appear in posts and IG stories and will continue to in the days to come!
That’s all for now. Catch y’all next time!
