If you are lazy to go out and face the crowd during Halloween night, why not spend your time at home watching these all-time favourite horror thriller movies and create your own horror at home?

I shortlisted 10 of my favourite horror movies because their stories are very original and very different from the standard horror movies. You should watch all that are on this list if you haven't!

When it comes to producing scary yet weird horror movies, Japan is the no. 1 on the list, followed by Thailand and the US. Without further ado, here are my favourite horror movies of all times.

The Ring (Japan) 1998

If you heard about Sadako, then for sure you heard about "The Ring". Yup, Sadako is the ghost who is filled with hatred from the cursed videotape. This movie came in 3 series, The Ring 1, The Ring 2 and The Ring 0. My favourite is The Ring 0 which is the prequel to the whole story. It talks about the times when Sadako was still alive and how she fell in love. I found it kinda sad, though.

Ju On (Japan) 2002

In a Japanese house, a vengeful spirit went after people and caused horrible deaths.

You would be familiar with the iconic scene of the ghost of a small boy squatting at the corner of the haunted house.

Dark Water (Japan) 2005

The plot follows a divorced mother who moves into a rundown apartment with her daughter and experiences supernatural occurrences including a mysterious water leak from the floor above.

It is definitely a hair-ifying movie with a lot of hair creeping into the haunted apartment. I'm not going to spoilt the plot by telling you where they found the skeleton though!

Uzumaki (Japan) 2000

To me, this movie is more a thriller than a horror movie. It is inspired by the manga written by Junji Ito and tells the story of the citizens of Kurōzu-cho, a fictional city which is plagued by a supernatural curse involving spirals.

The Eye (Hongkong) 2002

A lady who could predict the future and see spirits died and donated her eyes to a blind lady. When the lady opened her eyes, she started to see the spirits around her.

Shutter (Thailand) 2004

This is the first horror movie that has got a really unpredictable ending and definitely a must-watch if you haven't. White shadows in photos, neck and shoulder aches, and having a body weight double of your own. Go guess.

The Conjuring (US) 2013

The story takes place in a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known and it haunts the family that moved into the house. Based on true story of paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine and Ed Warren.

Annabelle (US) 2014

A classic story about the haunted doll based on true story. Don't you all agree that the horror movies that are adapted from true stories made them even scarier more interesting? Former toy maker Sam Mullins and his wife, Esther, are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Years earlier, the couple's 7-year-old daughter Annabelle died in a tragic car accident. Terror soon strikes when one child sneaks into a forbidden room and found a seemingly innocent doll that appeared to have a life of its own.

Saw (US) – 2004

This series is a must watch for thrill and gore lovers. A psycho sadistic serial killer nicknamed "Jigsaw" create plots to punish people who want to give up on their lives. Through physical and psychological torture, Jigsaw tests his victims will to live.

Child's Play (US) 1998

Chucky is portrayed as a notorious serial killer whose spirit inhabits a fictional "Good Guy" doll and continuously tries to transfer his soul from the doll to a human body.

I would say it's very entertaining, not a typical serious horror movie.
