More and more workplaces are open to having a more approachable and relaxed attire at work. However, there is still a huge difference between smart-casual and sloppy.

As much as your boss is walking into the office in jeans and tee and you are allowed to do that too, it is still better to look sharp instead of sloppy, especially if you have meetings or you have a presentation to make. It can be a little confusing to decide where to stand because you don't want to overdress and make everyone in the office uncomfortable too. So, how then, can we keep to the more relaxed office dress code, but not look like you are heading to the kopitiam to tabao your dinner?

In fact, there is absolutely no need for you to start buying new clothes and expand your wardrobe to meet the requirements. Here are some styling hacks that you may want to pick up to dress more professionally, and you can do that with everything that you already have.

1. Tuck in your top

A baggy and loose shirt look too casual. Tuck in your top to look more put together. Alternatively, try using a belt to cinch your long top for more definition.

2. Go for a good fit

Your colleagues are bound to start frowning if your outfit is too tight and you may come across as being too sexy and inappropriate. On the other hand, you don't want to be accused of wearing your pyjamas to work by wearing something too big and loose.

An outfit with a good fit is paramount to looking professional. Regardless of it is a shirt or a pair of jeans, don't hesitate to go to the tailor to get the best fit.

3. Structured outerwears FTW

Anything that is structured ups your professionalism immediately. You look sharper wearing a blazer as compared to a cute cardigan. In fact, since more workplaces allow us to experiment with fashion, it doesn't even have to be a blazer. Pick any coats or outerwears you like that is modern and stylish but structured outerwears definitely rule over the drapey ones at the workplace.

4. Invest in a blazer

A blazer is a magical item you need to instantly dress up anything you are wearing, even if you are wearing a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Throw your blazer over any casual dress or your t-shirt and you are immediately ready for the next meeting.

5. Wear heels with jeans

Flats give off more of the weekend vibes so if you are trying to look more professional in your jeans, put on a pair of heels.

6. Go for pointy flats

But what if you are just not a high-heels kind of girl? Unless you are in the creative industry, sneakers may be too casual for the office. If you want to still look sharp, go for pointy flats instead of rounded ones to look more mature and professional.
