Murder On the Orient Express is a beautiful movie, the cinematography, CGI and the cast comes together nicely but does the movie live up to the classic? Read on to find out if it’s worth the penny.

From the opening, you will notice that director Kenneth Branagh’s tries to revolve the story around the world’s best detective Hercule Poirot (played by Branagh himself) emphasising on his infatuation with balance in life and his remarkable case solving abilities. So much so that his fellow star-studded cast members become more of a sideline in the movie which is not necessarily a bad thing.

With so many big-name cast members it would be difficult to give everyone a good amount of screen time. The main antagonist Samuel Ratchett (played by Johnny Depp) may have the least screen time but his acting is top notch as usual and easily makes full use of his limited screen time to make an impression on the viewers.

With a running time of just under 2 hours, it was always going to be difficult to let the 12 suspects have enough impact on the movie hence we are only given brief glimpses of them. Daisy Ridley who shot to superstardom with Star Wars Episode VII makes an appearance here too as Mary Debenham, in the opening scenes, she is seen talking to Dr Arbuthot (played by Leslie Odom Jr) where it seems things are not so simple between them. Throughout the movie, clues are thrown around as if it’s trying to tease the viewer into thinking they found the culprit only to deliver a grand finale at the end.

If you are a fan of suspense movies and have not read the book or seen the original movie, go for it. Even if you have read the book just sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful CGI and star-studded cast.
