It's that time of the year again when all the Star Wars fanatics gather for the next chapter of the Star Wars Movie franchise. Like many Star Wars fans around the world, I was a bit worried about the Star Wars franchise when Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. However, to our surprise, director J.J. Abrams delivered a movie worthy of the Star Wars legacy when Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens came along in December 2015.

It was a dream come true for many Star Wars fans around the world to see the return of the franchise after 34 long years. I myself had witnessed fans breaking out in tears upon hearing the iconic theme song when Han solo died and at the end of the movie.

Here’s a fun fact for those wondering how big the Star Wars franchise is: Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens is the fastest movie to hit the $1 Billion mark worldwide, beating the likes of Marvel’s the Avengers and Avatar.

The new movie Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi picks up from Episode VII’s cliffhanger where Rey (Daisy Ridley) finds Luke Skywalker(Mark Hamil) and passes him his lightsaber. After fan favourite Han Solo (Harrison Ford) was killed off in episode VII, fans were treated to a teaser of yet another fan favourite, Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) seemingly in grave danger. Fans will no doubt mourn for Carrie Fisher who passed away in December Last year. This time round Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be helmed by Rian Johnson of Breaking Bad fame. Fans can expect some answers to Rey’s true identity, the fate of Princess Leia and perhaps more cliffhangers.

To drum up the Star Wars fever, all Fraser Centerpoint Malls will have Star Wars themed decorations and you can also take part in games, events or take some photos with the displays. The movie will be released on 15th Dec 2017 and regardless of whether you are a Star Wars fanatic or just someone looking for a good movie, go catch it and see what’s all the fuss about.

May The Force Be With You!
