Sweet Orange Slices

The orange slices make a great snack! Moreover, you can chop them up and use them to garnish your salad or create your own tea mixes. The sweet and bright coloured fruit provides potassium, an electrolyte that is essential for healthy heart function. Potassium works with other electrolytes, such as calcium to maintain the fluid levels both in and around cells. A steady fluid balance allows electricity to conduct through the body system, making the heart beats.

Ingredients

2 large oranges
1/4 cup coconut sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
A dash of sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °
  2. Wash and dry the oranges before cutting them to thin slices. Lay the slices flat on a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar (mixture A).
  4. Sprinkle mixture A evenly over orange slices.
  5. Oven-dry the slices in the oven for 2.5 to 3 hours.

*To make sure the rinds don't taste bitter, cut the oranges into extra thin slices and add mixture A to edges before baking.

Orange & Cream Popsicle

It is good to add some yoghurt to your orange for a variety of health benefits. Healthy bacteria that are found in the yoghurt help to improve the gut microflora, which is responsible for a healthy digestive tract. Studies show that these active cultures may help with certain gastrointestinal conditions, such as lactose intolerance and constipation.

Whole Fruit Cubes

Rejoice if you aren’t a fan of drinking water. The whole fruit cube adds flavour to the water and makes drinking it easier and more appealing. Since the water tastes great, you will drink more of it, and that helps to boost your hydration. And yes, since you’re well-hydrated, this means you get less cranky too. Even slight dehydration (1%), can affect your mood and concentration levels. There is no harm in implementing this new regime into your daily routine.

Drinking more water helps one to feel fuller and addresses the false hunger that dehydration brings. Yes, this means less snacking, and thus reduces unnecessary weight gain. In fact, studies show that drinking water can temporarily raise the metabolic rate.
