I love being part of a pair. I’ve always been a settle down kind of person. But after my divorce late last year, I had a short period of navigating the world while single again, before I found love.

I have to admit, there were many perks to being single. Here are 5 of them:
1. Guilt-Free Obsessions
I can obsess over an ultra time-consuming hobby. For me, it was beadwork and jewellery making. So for hours into the night, while my toddler was asleep, I was in a happy beading frenzy. Perhaps for you, it’s indulging in gaming, or reading all the books you put aside for years waiting for the time to get to them. Either way, being single affords you the time to indulge in yourself.
2. No Drama
No matter how great a relationship is, all couples argue. (In my opinion, the only couples that don't argue at all, have reached a stage of indifference and resignation). Arguing is simply a form of communication. And while it can be constructive and help develop your relationships, it’s also freaking tiring! You don’t need to deal with this while single.
3. I Can Be Selfish
Every decision I make about what to do or where to go, and even the temperature of the room… is about me and what I want. I don't have to consider another adult’s preferences or schedule.
4. Sleep like a starfish
I'm actually a really good bedfellow. I keep to my side and I seldom stir. But while I was single, I slept smack in the middle of the bed and spread out like a starfish. Ahhh….
5. Men
Being single means I can freely hang out with members of the opposite sex and meet new male friends. Not that I wasn't allowed to mix with my male friends while I was married. But I would just naturally tone that part of my social life down as I got more committed to one partner. It’s really not worth upsetting my partner over. But I have noticed that while I was single, men paid more attention to me. Once you’re taken, most men back off.
