The dog, long regarded as Man’s best friend, has elevated its status from a mere domestic pet to being an important component of a family nucleus. The unconditional love our four-legged friends have for us have cemented their place in our homes. And especially in our hearts. MyFatPocket’s very own blogger, Mikko, knows and constantly experiences this unconditional love.

Tibetan Spaniel’s origins can be traced 2500 years back and is believed to have originated from Tibet. This extremely intelligent, mild-natured, small but assertive dog is also known as "Simkhyi" which means house dog or bedroom dog.
It is a trusted and loving companion for monks and Lama masters in the temples and monasteries. Tibetan Spaniels are also regarded as dogs of the highest order and are often associated with aristocrats and royalties.
When our dogs fall ill, it can be heartbreaking…
Dogs have become an integral part of our lives and brings us laughter and so much love. They can break our hearts when they fall ill. Good health is equally important for our four-legged friends as it is for us, and that includes good hygiene.
Mikko shed light on the importance on how bad dental health is the cause of many heart-related issues in dogs. Some of the products Mikko uses to ensure good dental hygiene is the Gengigel Spray and Leba III Dental Spray. These products are for dogs with sensitive gums and aids in the treatment of sore gums and mouth ulcers and are ideal for those that are not receptive to brushing.
The Biotene Veterinarian Maintenance Oral Gel is a brushless toothpaste useful for the treatment of plaque and promotes overall good oral health in pets, while the Breathless Brushless Toothpaste is a chewable dog treat that promotes oral health via tart, plaque and bacteria control.
According to Mikko, to instill good dental habits in a dog is by initially inserting one’s fingers into their mouth and gently rubbing their teeth. This will ease the use of toothbrush and toothpaste in the future.
Tips on how to create a special bond between you & your dog
A good owner is reflected from how well the dog is being taken care of. Erie has glorious fur and unlike many other dogs who has a typical ‘dog smell’, all her dogs smell like they are fresh out of shower. The beautiful camaraderie between Mikko and her dogs seemed picture perfect. Because it was.
Mikko shared an invaluable tip when it comes to dog and human interaction.
For new dog or puppy owners, Mikko encourages an individual to familiarise themselves with their pets through the sense of touch. This practice will instil confidence in a dog when it comes to into contact with human. Also, as dogs are usually protective by nature, she advises dog owners to introduce their pets to visitors outside of their premises or homes. By doing this on a neutral ground, the dogs have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with these visitors and would be more at ease when they step into the house.
I hope that Mikko has inspired other dog owners to have more love and care for their pets. Before we leave our pets’ needs aside and take their health and well-being for granted, always remember that they love you unconditionally and unrequited love is very heartbreaking…
