Since 2007, Jermaine Teo and Adren How have been at the forefront of the beauty and medical aesthetics industry with ONLY Aesthetics. Sports recovery and pain management is now part of ONLY’s portfolio, partnering prominent institutions in the local sports industry such as S. League Champions (Tampines Rovers) and Asia’s number one MMA outfit, ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC).
Their concept store, Absolute Zero at Pacific Plaza, was the first in Asia to offer Whole Body Cryotherapy services. Whole Body Cryotherapy (or WBC) is a medical treatment using cold liquid nitrogen to counter pain and induce recovery.
Absolute Zero invited MMA Fighters, Stephen Langdown, Bruno Pucci and Brad Robinson to try the Whole Body Cryotherapy in preparation for their fight for the ONE Fighting Championship on 30th May 2014.
First & Only Cryotherapy Treatment in Southeast Asia!
The Whole Body CryoChamber envelopes a patient’s body while exposing the head and neck area. The device can reach temperatures of about -300 degrees F.
The Cryochamber is cooled with liquid nitrogen to a temperature of −110°C to −150°C (−166°F to −238°F). The Whole Body CryoChamber is equipped with numerous safety features and doors are never locked, which allows clients to stop treatment instantaneously at any time. The dress code during treatment is minimal - Robe (removed during treatment), Socks, Slippers and Underwear (bottoms).
The Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) exposes the body to ultra-low temperatures, triggering a systemic anti-inflammatory response. Therapy triggers the release of endorphins which induce analgesia (immediate pain relief).
Patients have found the experience to be invigorating. Reports also shows that it improves a variety of conditions such as psychological stress, insomnia, rheumatism, muscle and joint pain, fibromyalgia, itching and psoriasis.
The immediate effect of skin cooling and analgesia lasts for 5 minutes but the release of endorphins can have a lasting effect. This leaves pains and signs of inflammation suppressed for weeks.

This modality was first utilized in Japan in 1978 to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Studies conducted over the last two decades have established WBC as a powerful treatment for inflammatory disorders and injuries. The accelerated production of collagen improves skin elasticity and texture, reverses skin aging and reduces the appearance of cellulite. WBC boosts the body’s metabolic rate as well, accelerating weight loss outcomes.
Professional athletes have discovered WBC as a powerful treatment to decrease recovery time and increase athletic performance. Although Whole Body Cryotherapy originated in Japan, it was a group of Polish scientists who took the idea and made Whole Body Cryotherapy the physical therapy it is today. The Olympic rehabilitation center in Spala, Poland which opened in May 2000 has been used as a training and injury rehabilitation center for many sporting bodies.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is the fastest growing sport in the world today. Whether it is Karate, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, Silat, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Aikido or other martial arts; MMA combines the excitement of a prize fight, the athleticism of the Olympics, the tradition of martial arts, and the adrenaline of a rock concert.
After Whole Body Cryotherapy
Stephen Langdown
“Here I am at Absolute Zero yesterday, trying to smile while being frozen! It was a very long and cold three minutes but I survived. Slept like a baby yesterday and feel so much better today!”
Brad Robinson
“I know a lot of athletes around the world use it regularly and they rave about it. We ask ourselves a lot of our bodies, training two to three times a day, so I do everything I can to help myself out. The science says this is supposed to help me recover faster. In MMA, we get swells, bruises and bumps so often and we do what we can to bring them down with ice. I’m one of the older fighters on the card and I have some recurring injuries so this is good for me. Recovery was immediate, once the body warms up. We need as much help as we can get to prepare our bodies at optimum levels. Whole body cryotherapy is said to keep you looking young and giving you tight skin, so I’ll take what I can.”
Bruno Pucci
“A fighter’s life is not easy – training is tough and we often feel sore muscles and get bruised. We watch what we eat as well, so we want to do whatever we can to help our bodies. During the treatment, I was watching the temperature going down. I tell you, -150 and -190 degrees Celsius feel very different. I felt my bruises, the same way I do when I ice them after training. Yes, it is cold, right to the bones but it’s only for a short while.”
Rich Franklin
“I have trained for fights in Singapore in the past and if I train for my next fight at Evolve MMA here, I am sure I will be a regular visitor to Absolute Zero. At my age recovery from training takes longer so anything you can do to speed up that recovery time is going to be a big help and I definitely felt a reduction in muscle and joint pain, as well as feeling more relaxed overall, after my session in the cryotherapy chamber."
