The lure of to go under the knife for an aesthetic or plastic surgery procedure in Korea is undeniably tempting. After all, South Korea’s reputation as the aesthetic capital of the world has seen a meteoric rise over the past decade. However, the temptation can also be deceptively dangerous.
Recently, The Straits Times ran a story on a botched plastic surgery job that was done in Korea. The victim, a Singaporean woman, apparently ended up looking worse for the wear. She was left with creases in her eyelids which made her eyes look asymmetrical. But that wasn’t all. The doctor had transferred fats from her abdomen to her forehead without her permission. Generally, fat transfer or grafting is usually done to render a more youthful appearance but for the victim, that wasn’t the case.
Horror stories of botched plastic surgeries and aesthetic procedures can be found in abundance on the internet. In most cases, these were the result of poor research on the victims’ part and not having a clear understanding of the procedures they have elected for.
MFP recently spoke to Dr. Michael Kim, founder and Medical Director at Aeon Medical and Aesthetic Centre, on his opinion on such incidents and his advice on preventive measures that Singaporeans should take and heed before their plastic surgery appointment in South Korea.
Dr Michael Kim graduated from the Seoul National University and completed his internship and Orthopaedic Residency at the Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea.
