a-nation, one of the largest urban music festival by Avex, came to Singapore with performances by Ayumi Hamasaki, m-flo and more!
a-nation singapore, the first overseas concert in South-east Asia for Japan’s largest summer festival “a-nation”, held a successful showcase for a crowd of 2,000, at Marina Bay Sands. This brings the total attendance for a-nation in 2014 to 606,000 attendees.
m-flo’s Verba marks the first time that he is performing as a group
While m-flo’s Verbal has performed in Singapore previously, a-nation singapore marks the first time that m-flo is performing as a group. The two artistes, Verbal and DJ Taku shared light moments including anecdotes of their friendship during school days. Verbal has known DJ Taku since fifth Grade, and his first encounter with DJ Taku was when he burst into school with a video camera and asked Verbal to be a part of his own movie. While the movie was never made, the friendship has grown since.
When asked on their future plans and how they have grown for the past 15 years, m-flo stressed the importance of constantly evolving and believing in what they do, despite the pressure and expectations faced from fans and the music industry. The hip-hop group professes that they can get bored easily, and part of their philosophy is to “break the mould” and always try to be witty.
On their thoughts on performing for a-nation the day before the performance, m-flo acknowledged that it is a very special milestone, for them to perform as m-flo as well as being part of a-nation, in Singapore.
Ayumi Hamasaki, the Queen of J-pop
Ayumi Hamasaki, commonly recognised as the Queen of J-pop, was similarly delighted to be back in Singapore, with her first visit being twelve years ago. The artiste shared that her performance tomorrow will include songs from her latest album, “Colours” as well as some of her older songs.
When asked if she would be keen to hold a solo concert in Singapore in the near future, Ayumi smiled and excitedly said that she would love to make that happen. And boy, did she entertained during the concert!
Dressed in chic black and gold at the media conference, Ayumi Hamasaki candidly shared that her style is inspired from her songs and her views on how she wants to be, regardless of whether it is considered
“trendy or not”. When asked about her school-days, the J-pop superstar shared that when she was a kid, she used to be a “tom boy” and likes to be alone. She mentioned that one of her regrets was quitting high school early, and urged all students to enjoy school and persevere on with their studies.
AAA, one of avex’s artistes, announced that they will be participating in a-nation 2015 in Singapore and Taiwan.
