The New Year calls for a new you and you can most definitely accomplish it with new hair.
With barely a week to go till we welcome the year of the goat, I’m sure it’s panic mode: ON if you’ve yet to get your Chinese New Year vanities out of the way. The New Year calls for a new you and you can most definitely accomplish it with new hair.
Being a sucker for pretty coloured hair (who isn’t?), I’ve subjected my crowning glory to numerous bleaching and colouring over the years at the expense of its health. Dryness, dullness, brittleness – you name it, I’ve had it. Nonetheless, I’ve never let these problems thwart my pursuit of achieving the hair colours I desire.

This feat is attributed to Modern Style Salon’s lead stylist, Tonny. His expertise and attentiveness towards making sure his customers’ requests are always met are commendable. Despite being in the industry for almost a decade, Tonny is still devoting himself to refining his techniques and services to better serve his patrons.
I decided to maintain my hair length slightly below the shoulders so that I could have the remainder of the bleached ends chopped off.
My severely damaged ends.
Before Tonny could start colouring my hair, I had to have my roots bleached twice in order to attain a more balanced colour overall.
He then proceeded with the blonde highlights – a first for me.
I mentioned how my previous experiences with ash colours were always short-lived, hence, Tonny suggested for me to try the Colour Lock Treatment.
And voila!
Now that I’ve got my mane tamed for CNY, let me lend you a little hand if yours still leaves you scratching your heads for ideas.
5 Hair Colours to Try this Chinese New Year
1. Balayage

If minimalistic is what you’re going for then this colour should be right up your alley. Balayage, which means to sweep or to paint in French, is a technique that delivers a natural sun-kissed finish to your hair – similar to that you had as a kid. Balayage is pretty low-maintenance so you don’t have to fret much over unsightly roots.
2. Caramel Highlights

For those who’ve always played on the safe side by opting for dark colours, why not introduce some lighter shades to your tresses this year? Instead of going for a single colour, add some caramel highlights to give your hair a more chic finish. Curl the ends for a touch of sophistication.
3. Reddish-browns

If fiery red is a little too over-the-top for your liking, try bringing it down a notch with more natural and rich-looking shades like warm gold, warm reds and coppers mixed with hints of brown.
4. Platinum Blonde

This is a tricky one – while platinum blonde could induce a sickly appearance on some, it looks super glamourous on those who can carry it off (lucky you). If you’re feeling adventurous, add some pastel or golden hues for a more unique touch.
5. Bold Colours

There’s no doubt how unconventional colours have been an increasingly common sight in recent years, which is a good sign – it means more people have taken the courage to step outside their comfort zones and embrace bold colours in order to showcase their individuality.
Let 2015 be the year where you take that leap of faith and just go, well, crazy.
