Life Is Too Short to Be Boring

This topic just seem so appropriate for me.

2 years back I got to a stage in my life when my weight was at my max. I hated the way I looked and I was always feeling tired. I hardly took any selfies cos I cannot stand how i looked in the photos. I almost had to change my wardrobe as most of clothes suddenly felt tight fitted due to the weight gain. I felt lousy! To be honest, my wake up call was when my hubby had a health scare.

That was the turning point.....Hubby had to start an exercise routine under doctor's order. I tried to be a supportive wife by keeping him company by 'forcing' myself to start an exercise routine of my own.

I started out with just brisk walking on the treadmill. It was a really tough at first. A 2km walk on the treadmill was not easy for someone who has stopped exercising for a few years. I took me many months just to get into a routine of brisk walking on the treadmill. But with preseverence, I managed to build up my stamina from 2km to eventually 5km.

With strong encouragement from friends who has been running for a few years, i have decided to sign up for my first 5km fun race just to keep my girlfriend company as it was her favourite Hello Kitty Run in Dec 2015. It is definitely true that when you sign up for a race, you will be motivated to train so that you can complete the distance.

As the race date drew near, I started training for my run more regularly. To some, this is just a simple 5km where One can just walk, but it gave me a reason to start setting a routine as well as discipline.

It was an awesome experience after completing my first 5km Hello kitty in 2015. With regular exercise, I started shredding off fats and I got fitter. In jan 2016, one of my girlfriends suggested we sign up for a 10km this year. I was relunctant at first as i felt the distance was double of what I have become comfortable with. But with encouragements and coaxing, i decided to give it a shot as I had a few months to prepare.

Sundown Marathon 2016, was my first race for 10km. After months of preparation, I managed to complete my first 10km run in 1hr15min. It was my personal best! To many, this is not a fast paced run but I had set a realistic goal for myself and I managed to achieve it!!

Looking back now..... I may not have done something of a big deal, but to me, I have made good progress! Suddenly, life is no longer boring. I run about 3-4x a week now. I am fitter than i have been in years and I feel more confident of myself now. I may have started late but hey, at least i can re-start at age 42?! The choice is yours!
