Since young, Mom taught me hard on saving up and being thrifty. Our family wasn’t well to do and every penny spent has to go through well consideration. It is through Mom, that I can be able to save $$$ on the slightest things so I can spend it on other more worthwhile stuff.
I wrote about how I save money on movies and also “Tips on Saving Up to $10,000 – $12,000 In 1 Year for Regular Executives”. Today, the topic is on SHOPPING saving tips! I hardly buy branded items and I save on even items that come across as cheap and affordable to others – not because I am stingy, but because I feel that it’s a challenge to pick out deals and save $$! This is a form of personal finance management, a soft skill that is essential to my future life and home plan.
This was a Las Vegas inspired theme D&D event. My entire outfit cost me nothing more than $50.
When I have something that I need to buy:
1. First, I list out a few places or online sites that I possibly can buy it from
2. I analyse how long I need to have or use the item for; and what it’s for
3. Filter the list of where to buy based on the worth of my analysis
Yes, in my head, it seems like I always have this database generating. I will try not to buy things from a certain place when I clearly know that somewhere else is selling it cheaper. Of course, there are times when I splurge too. However, I always have this limit that I do not exceed.
For example:
I was looking for a pair of black & white stripes leggings with mash. There were blogshops selling it for $20 and above, and a china-based website for less than $8.
I picked the latter, because:
1) I see it as a momentary trend, that might not last past 6 months
2) If I am going to wear it for less than 3 times, I don’t find a need to invest on a high quality pair
3) I am not wearing it for any special occasion. All the more there is no need to splurge on this item
4) I save $12 (I can even buy another piece!)
So, this is how I save on shopping! If you have any questions, leave a comment here and I will try to answer as much as I can! ;-)
