There are few kinds of sport shoes which can help to enhance performance and prevent injuries if you get the proper fitting pair.
This is what I've learnt from my friend who is a gym trainer and I hope that they will help you out when you're purchasing a new pair of athletic shoes.
When purchasing a shoe, I was told that "you should be able to freely wiggle all of your toes, when you're wearing the shoe." This will allow your feet to feel comfortable and not tight or sore during workout.
For cardio etc. Running, jogging, hiking, walking. You should get a comfortable soft upper, good shock absorption, rocker sole design that encourages the natural roll of the foot during cardio. The features of a good jogging shoe include cushioning, flexibility, control and stability in the heel counter area, as well as lightness and good traction.
For doing squats with weights and deadlift, I was told to get a shoe with sole that are flat enough to work. This type will be the ideal one. I'm personally using Adidas superstar, it might not be the ideal pair as the sole is thick and it might make my workout tougher but I don't feel any differences with it, so I'm good!
