I love travelling so much. There are just so many parts of the world that I would love to explore. When I gave birth to my son Jack, I had to put off travelling for a few years but now that he is a toddler and going to school and with my mum and helper taking good care of him, it is now my chance to sneak away for small trips every few months. Whoohooo, it’s time to resume my travels. Of course sometimes, I do try to bring my son and family along.
If you are a parent, you will know that it is super tough travelling with children. If you are not a parent yet, ‘’look forward’’ to it then! Hahaha! Ok anyway don’t want to bore you with my stories of how my son wants to be carried all the time when we are travelling until my arms want to break off from my shoulders and the screaming throughout the entire flight THERE AND BACK.
Let me share with you 10 tips I use for packing when I go for trips.
1. Bring laundry detergent
Washing some of your clothes and under garments during your trip will allow you to bring fewer clothes. This is crucial because it gives you more space to buy stuffs back. Go for those individual packets of laundry detergent so you can wash your clothes on the go.
2. Pack travel sized toiletries or leave the toiletries at home and buy what you need at your destination.
You will find that you travel so much lighter this way. Travel as light as possible, which includes having a lightweight suitcase because in some countries you will find that there isn’t any lift down to the subway station. I remember pushing my suitcase and just letting it roll down to the bottom because it was just too heavy to be carried. LOL.
3. Bring a dryer sheet
This is to ensure that your clean clothes will not take in odors from the dirty clothes.
4. Double bag your toiletries bag to prevent spills.
5. Put rolled up socks inside your shoes to keep the shape of your shoes when inside the suitcase.
6. Place shoes top to toe at the bottom of your suitcase to save space and to make sure that your suitcase is balanced.
Use a shower cap to cover the bottom of your shoes to prevent dirt from touching the other items in your suitcase.
7. Put chargers and cables in a glass case to keep them neat.
8. Bring wrinkle-free and clothes that need not be ironed and similar color palette so you can mix and match the outfits.
9. Roll clothing up as it takes up less space that way.
Then use air compression plastic bags to squeeze air out of clothes.
10. Pack empty big tote bags for dirty laundry at the end of the holiday.
During the holiday you can use the tote bag to carry your shopping so you will not have too many paper bags to carry and will not lose your purchases easily.
