Shout “Hai (はい)”, if you are among the thousands that wrestled your way through Super Masturi, or secretly anticipates the annual Hokkaido Food Fair, or heart skips a beat when you hear about the opening of Japan Railway Café. If you shouted YES (enthusiastically) to all these, this September you’re definitely in for a bonanza.

Fans of Japan and Soup Spoon, be ready to tantalise your taste buds with Soup Spoon- “Taste Japan, Japan’s Local Flavours to You” SouperChef Specials campaign which launched today.
The 9 week long campagin consists of 3 rounds, and Round 1 of the campagin includes 3 Kyushu inspired soups, which are only here from 6th September to 29th September. The great news is these soups are all healthy and calorie-controlled (nothing over 400 calories).
Barramundi Miso Arajiru (222 Calories)
Nothing goes to waste in Japan, and this is especially true with Arajiru, a miso soup made with fish head and bones. Soup Spoon’s rendition of the soup, consisted of base stock made from charred kuhlbarra barramundi bones and kombu, along with citrus notes of lemon and yuzu. All these combined to give the soup its distinctive notes of sharpness with flora notes, along with a hint of fresh sea flavours.

Grilled Corn Chowder Champon Style (349 Calories)
Japanese food lovers are no strangers to the dish Champon, a Chinese style noodle dish of pork, seafood and vegetables all pan fried in lard.
Taking inspiration from the corn chowder, Soup Spoon’s chowder is “champonised” to give a smoky flavour, along with smooth texture, through grilling of the husk and blending of the kernels. The creative Chef Anna also brightens the soup with the umami-rich flavours of yuzu kosho.

Hikado Portuguese-Japanese Chicken Stew (193 Calories)
Originated from Picado (a household vegetable soup in Portugal), we would say Soup Spoon’s hikado is indeed an exquisite fusion flair. With crossbreeding of ingredients such as Chinese sea cucumber, Japanese salmon roe, radish, taro, konnyaku and mixed grain rice, this bowl of hikado is definitely an upgraded and healthier version of oden.
