I have always been an avid shopper and bargain hunter. There was no way I would give up the chance of snapping up a good buy or getting something online because it was one of the most convenient way to shop.
Upon discovering that I could shop via Taobao on my own (since I can read Chinese) without a third party agent meant that there were parcels arriving every 10 days. So I have decided to embark on yet another 30 days shopping ban. Though in all honesty, it's not because I really want to but because my wallet can no longer support me.
Shopping can be an addictive habit and it could spiral out of control if not carefully managed. I must admit that I derive a certain high from this expensive hobby. Though the strange thing is that I'm always buying stuff for my boy instead of myself. Some days, I find that my mood improves after just browsing and adding stuff to my wish list. I'm not sure if it is the material goods or simply the action that makes me happy but I'm leaning more towards to the latter. I guess it's high time to admit that I do have a worrying problem.
No matter how much carting out items gave me a sense of satisfaction. I needed to put a stop to it. Is there anyone facing this same issue as me?
Here are 12 signs that you might be a shopaholic like me:
1. You feel lost without your credit cards because you are often swiping them.
2. You excitedly count down to the next billing cycle each time you have maxed up your spending limit for the month.
3. You suffer withdrawal symptoms if you do not log on to your favourite shopping site at least thrice a day.
4. Just adding items to your wish list or shopping cart even without checking out is enough to make your heart flutter.
5. Your idea of a well-spent weekend is alone in bed with your laptop, an Internet connection and credit card.
6. You think nothing of taking a day off school or work just so you could camp by your computer for the black Friday sale to start (damn you, time zones).
7. Tracking your shipments without fail on a daily basis is what keeps you sane in this crazy world.
8. You can never stick to a shopping list or even bother coming up with one.
9. You are easily convinced to buy more just so you could qualify for free shipping or get a freebie that you don't really need.
10. You suffer from guilt after each shopping spree and sometimes feel the need to hide your purchases or lie about the amount spent.
11. It is a joy just seeing your purchases pile up into a mountain even as you run out of physical space in your house.
12. Half of the items that you have purchased serve no real purpose in your life and you can't recall why did you even buy it.
Well, as they always say, the first step to a problem is admitting it. Now, let's see if I would be able to stick to my 30 days shopping ban. For starters, I have removed my credit cards from my wallet but it is refraining from online shopping that is the difficult part.
