We are all familiar with the correct steps to apply our skincare -- Toner, then serum, and followed by a moisturiser. But if I have more than one skin concerns that I want to address, can I put more products? And in which sequence?

Most of us have more than one serum in our vanity cupboard and I usually use one serum each time, rotating them to suit my skin needs. However, as much as I need to prevent ageing, I want to brighten my skin tone at the same time. So the question is, are we allowed to use more than one serum at once? Will they still be effective, and which one do we use first?
Here's the guide to on how to layer your serums to get the most out of your skincare.
1. Identify your skin concerns
Serums, as compared to moisturisers, contains high levels of active ingredients that tackle your skin problems so it is always wise to include at least one into your skincare regime. We may have more than one skin problem that we want to address, for example, wrinkles and pigmentation, or acne and dull skin. Identify your problems and get yourself the necessary serums you need.
2. Lighter to heaviest
The rule of the thumb when you are layering serums is to always apply the one with the lightest texture first, and work your way up to the one with the heaviest texture. The general guideline is to layer not more than three serums for maximum efficacy.
3. 60 seconds window
Do not apply one serum after another without allowing time to let your skin absorb the serums. After applying each layer of serum, allow a 60 seconds window in between to let your skin absorb the serum. We really don't want a congested mess of serums on our face.
4. Pat them in
During the 60 seconds window, light massage your face or pat the serum on your face to increase blood circulation and to facilitate absorption.
5. Do not skip moisturiser
If you think that you can skip moisturiser after applying layers of serums, you are so wrong. Moisturisers and serums work differently. So if you don't want a dehydrated face at the end of the day, seal in your serums with your favourite moisturiser. It's just one more step, isn't it?
