Many years ago, I had just broken up with a boyfriend but we had already booked flights for a short weekend getaway. Obviously, we were no longer going on this holiday, due to the nature of the break up (messy, angry and non-mutual). I didn’t want to waste the tickets as they were non-refundable, so I invited a friend to go on this holiday with me.

I changed the name of the flight ticket so he could use it and he said he would take care of the hotel booking in return. It’s a win win situation, isn’t it?
Until we arrived at our destination, and I realised he had only booked one room… with one double bed. That’s when I realised oh oh our lines must have got crossed because this is not just a friendly holiday!
Over the years, I’ve learned other ways to suss out when indeed it’s not going to be just a friendly holiday and you are going as more than just friends. Here are the main signs:
1. He Pays
This may seem a little old fashioned but "just friends" tend to go dutch, especially for big ticket items like a trip overseas. A man who is interested in being more than just your friend will automatically foot the bill. If he's acting like a date, it is likely that he's feeling more like a date. Let him lead if you do want it to go that way, or pull in the reigns quickly otherwise you’ll end up in an awkward one-bed situation in Krabi like I did. Haha.

2. You Share a Room
Let’s face it, you’re no longer teenagers who can only afford a backpacker’s hostel or can only afford to cram everyone in one hotel room. You can both afford to get your own rooms and enjoy the luxuries of privacy (like have a shit in peace in the morning without worrying about roomies). He’s not going to share a room unless he wants to be more than friends (or is incredibly broke/stingy… not likely).

3. He Makes Physical Contact
More so than usual. If he’s intending to take this friendly relationship to a new intimate level, he will start paving the way… rather than suddenly spring a throbbing hard erection on you out of the blue. He is likely to give you good eye contact, he will touch you on the arm or shoulder often and that will soon gravitate towards more and more intimate areas, hold you around your waist, rests his hand on your thigh when you’re both seated, etc.

4. He Packs Condoms
Or he casually tries to suss out if you’re on the pill. If you spot a jumbo pack of Durex in his luggage, you can be sure that he wants to be more than drinking buddies with you this holiday.

5. Your Friends Tell You So
If he has designs on you, he might have mentioned it to one of your mutual friends and news may have traveled. It is often the case where you are totally oblivious to your guy friend’s attempts to get you in the sack, but everyone else can see it!
