As we transcend to the second half of the year, into the Fall/Winter season, we start to see stronger and bolder makeup looks. The Fall season is all about the opposite of no-makeup makeup looks. We see bright berry lips, shades of smoky eyes and bronzer as blush.
For the most of 2017, the hype was all about liquid matte lipsticks. I’m bringing you some strong, edgy colours on the eyes, pairing them with some of my favourite liquid matte lipsticks in the market.
You know they say that life only begins at the end of your comfort zone. What will your life be if you only wear that one peachy nude lipstick looking like the girl-next-door always? Break that mould. You know you want to rock some edgy looks this Fall.
Plums and burgundies have been my favourite palettes to work with when it comes to either neutral or smoky eyeshadow looks. It’s easy to obtain a feminine and soft look with just a couple of light violets and a smoky eye look intensified with a dark plum shade.
For this look, it’s a softer and wearable version using the Tarte Cosmetics Tartelette Eye Shadow Palette. For the lips, it’s all about bringing out the berry/purple look so I went for the Palladio Velvet Matte Metallic Lip Cream in Lavish. I wanted to make the lips pop a bit more so I dusted a bit of Amethyst from the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette.
If you’re gunning for a stronger look with the lips, you can keep the eyes fairly simple with neutral colours so that the eyes do not steal the show.
Worked with the browns from The Body Shop Down to Earth Eyeshadow Palette and on the lips, I’ve smeared over the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 24 Burnt Sienna. What a sexy combination! ;)
The last look is one of my favourites thus far. I love how the golds and the greens in the Marc Jacobs Eye-conic Multi-finish Eyeshadow Palette in Edgitorial go together! At first glance, the colours may put you off because of how intensely pigmented and deep-hued they are, but somehow, I managed to work out a wearable look with them!
Smoke it out with a little black while pairing the eye look with a dusty rose shade, and you’re good to go! I’m using the Hourglass Cosmetics Opaque Rouge Matte Liquid Lipstick in Empress.
The rule of thumb to maintain a strong but wearable makeup look is to choose one feature to be the focus. It could be the eyes, the lips or even the cheeks you want to have as the highlight. While focusing on that one strong feature, keep all other features soft and simple so that you don’t have too many bold colours fighting against each other.
Are you ready to rock some Fall makeup? Go get ’em, girl!
