The beginning of a new year signifies change and in the sartorial department, everyone is making guesses on what's going to be hot, and what are the items that we need to dump ASAP.
Looking at the SS18 runways, we can safely predict that these are the fashion items you want to be seen in in 2018.
1. Ultra Violet
Need we say more? This is the Pantone colour of the year and you can safely predict how the fashion world will be spinning around this colour and the variations of it.

2. Berets
The winter season saw the comeback of this classic French accessory when Dior put black leather berets on the runway. It was spotted on celebrities like the Hadid sisters, our very own Jeanette Aw, and style influencers like Yoyo Cao. Seems like berets are set to stay for a little longer and you can still invest in this item if you haven't done so.

3. Bicycle shorts
Did I hear shocked exclamations? Just when we thought that bicycle shorts will never see the light again, this 90s trend appeared on the Spring Runways where brands like Dion Lee, Nina Ricci, and Off-White paired them with suits. Kim Kardashian and fashion It girl Gigi Hadid was seen donning them and we weren't be surprised if bicycle shorts take the centre stage in 2018.

4. Metallic fringe
Leave the bohemian style suede fringe apparels behind but take inspirations from the '70s this year. Let the fringe get a little disco-friendly in metallic, stringy materials.

5. Pastels
These feminine and girly shades are welcomed by all any time of the year. Don't worry about looking too kawaii (read Japanese Lolitas) in these pastel shades. You can always choose chicer and edgier designs or cuts to tone down the girliness. Alternatively, use them sparingly as accessories rather than taking a monochromatic look.
Tip: Choose lilac over cotton candy pink this year since Ultra Violet is the colour of the year.

6. Sheer
No longer considered an "only for the bedroom" material, sheer outfits are great for layering. Try a sheer slip dress over jeans and skinny jeans, or getting an outfit with panelled sheer sections to show a little bit of skin.
